Dear Parent or Guardian,

I hope this email finds you and your families well.

In the last 72 hours, 10 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in members of our school community. Over the course of the last fourteen days 188 Abington residents tested positive for COVID-19, and the town of Abington’s positivity rate is 8.1%. The recently identified cases involving our school community indicate that the current spike in COVID-19 cases is clearly continuing. The area’s upward trend in positive cases, coupled with the lag time to get a COVID-19 test and the test results, strongly suggests additional cases will continue to be reported in the coming days.

Therefore, all Abington Public Schools will shift to fully remote instruction from Tuesday, December 15, 2020 through December 22, 2020.

We plan to return to the Hybrid schedule on Monday, January 4, 2021.

Principals/teachers will be sending school specific remote learning information prior to the start of school Tuesday.

Breakfast and lunch will be available, as previously scheduled, on Wednesday, December 16 and Monday, December 21, 2020. If you have any questions please contact the Food Service Director, Bernie Darcy at 781-982-2156 or [email protected].

Please do all that you can to remain vigilant against COVID-19. Continue mask wearing, social distancing, and handwashing - hopefully, together, we can flatten this spike.

I will continue to update you when and as I can.

Sincerely,

Peter Schafer
Superintendent of Schools
