NPR "Unfit for Work" Series Paints a Misleading Picture of Social Security Programs for Individuals with Severe Disabilities.

The Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), along with more than 100 other disability organizations, has responded to the recent National Public Radio (NPR) Series "Unfit for Work:  The Startling Rise of Disability in America" and accompanying This American Life episode "Trends with Benefits" citing the series' "misleading and inaccurate picture" of Social Security programs that are a "vital lifeline" for Americans with severe disabilities.

The CCD's comprehensive response provides accurate information on the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) programs, who's eligible, the stringent application process, critical benefits for children with disabilities and their families, demographics, trends and the future of these necessary programs.

I strongly urge you to read the CCD's response - "Unfit for NPR -- Let's Get the Facts Straight on Disability.  Social Security Disability Programs are a Vital Lifeline for People with Severe Disabilities."  Share it with your family, neighbors, colleagues and others and let's get the facts straight!
