One day, we were discussing how our community is constantly suffering from horrible decisions deriving from bad policies implemented by law makers we've elected directly or indirectly (by voting or failing to vote). We came to the conclusion that our lack of interest in politics and lack of civic accountability really impacts us negatively. We believe that many of us have either failed to do the necessary research before voting, or failed to get out and VOTE.
People from all walks of life regardless of race, age and sexual orientation are constantly weighing in on many issues that exists today, but we forget to point out that we are currently living in a society that no longer values what is most important: our legacy. We contribute more to the current state of the nation than we are aware. Some of us are actively engaging officials of our community and holding them accountable, and some of us have become complacent in our duties because we think we cannot do much.
Will our children and descendants grow up to fix what we have broken and should have prevented? What can we do now to make sure we are addressing certain issues and take necessary actionable steps to resolve these issues in the next decade?
We believe that promoting civic engagement and participation within our communities while standing up for social and economic justice in our communities is the key. Ultimately, our mission is to engage, advocate and organize to increase voter registration and voter participation so the interests of the people are being represented.
Let's encourage each other to get involved by registering to vote, voting and participating in the process when needed, voicing our concerns where it matters (not just social media). Please visit our website, share this message with your friends and get involved today!
Sincerely,
Stacey & Volma Volcy
