The Rev. Thomas Meyers Van Culin

The Reverend Thomas Meyers Van Culin (age 80) died of respiratory complications and heart failure this past Sunday, November 4, 2018.  

Tom was ordained to the Diaconate on September 1, 1991, and to the Priesthood  on March 15, 1992, by the Rt. Rev. Donald P. Hart.  Following ministry as a prison chaplain, Tom served as the as the Vicar of St. Matthew's Church, Waimanalo, from 1993 to 2007, and Vicar of St. Luke's Church, Honolulu, from 2007 to 2010. Tom was raised at the Cathedral of St. Andrew.  Before leaving for the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in 1986 to prepare for ordination, he was a lay leader of his Parish (St. Christopher's Church, Kailua), the Diocese (including service on the Standing Committee), and the Episcopal Church (including service on the Executive Council).  Tom was resident at the Lunalilo Home at the time of his death.  He is survived by his wife, Tina his children, Tori and Drew (and their families) ; and his hanai son, Sean
 
A Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated in thanksgiving for Tom's life this coming Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 10:00 AM, in the Cathedral of St. Andrew, Honolulu.
 
ALMIGHTY AND ETERNAL GOD, to whom there is never any prayer made without hope of mercy, be merciful to the soul of your faithful servant, Tom, being departed from this world in the confession of your Holy Name that he and all the departed may be welcomed into the company of thy saints, through Christ our Lord. Amen.   
 
Rest eternal grant him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.  May he rest in peace. Amen.
