Message from the CAEP Office Regarding COVID-19 and Its Impact on Adult Education
As we navigate the current developments of the COVID-19, the CAEP Office continues to provide up-to-date system-wide information and resources to assist adult education programs in moving to an online platform.

Please note that CAEP deliverables are still due according to their aforementioned due dates. The CAEP Office encourages consortia and members to move forward with virtual meetings in light of the Governor’s suspension of the Brown Act.

The CAEP Office and CAEP TAP will hold live office hours for CAEP consortia beginning Friday, March 27, 2020 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for the CAEP Office and CAEP TAP to connect with consortia, answer questions, facilitate discussions, and support one another through community of practice. Register to attend the upcoming office hour.

Additionally, the CAEP Office and CAEP TAP will host a webinar, including a NOVA live demonstration, on the CFAD and other pressing CAEP topics. The webinar will take place on Friday, April 17, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. Register to attend the upcoming webinar.

OTAN COVID-19 Support to Adult Educators
In response to COVID-19 and school closures across the State, the Outreach and Technical Assistance Network (OTAN) has set up a number of online webinars, office hours for adult education practitioners who are continuing to teach and support their learners, and a dedicated COVID-19 Field Support webpage. Their webinars and office hours are outlined below:

Equity-Minded and Culturally-Affirming Online Instructional Practices
The quick and unanticipated school closures across the State has forced many faculty and students to transition to online instruction. Join Dr. Frank Harris III and Dr. Luke Wood as they present equity-minded and culturally-affirming teaching and learning practices in virtual learning communities to ensure successful transitions of diverse community college learners.

EdTech Center Launches New Website for Distance Education Support
The EdTech Center at World Education has launched the Tips for Distance Learning website. The purpose of this website is to assist adult basic education programs launch or improve their distance learning program.

To provide adult education practitioners with ongoing distance education support, EdTech is hosting a Distance Learning Strategy Session this Friday, March 27, 2020 at 10:00 PST.

Preparing for and Offering Adult Basic Skills Online Discussion Summary and Resources
David Rosen, long time COABE member and moderator, started an online discussion on how adult education practitioners could prepare for and offer adult basic skills courses online during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The rich discussion amongst adult education practitioners produced a menu of available resources that is continuously updated. Check out the discussion and resources today.
Census 2020 and COVID-19 Updates

The United States Census Bureau has released information on modifying the 2020 Census operations to ensure students are counted in the wake of COVID-19. Additionally, the Census Bureau is delaying the start of the Mobile Questionnaire Assistance Program (April 13) and the Early Nonresponse Follow-up Operation (April 23). In response to COVID-19, Community Connect Labs has released Tips for Census Partner Outreach in a Time of Uncertainty . Planned events to get an accurate count such as training sessions at libraries and neighborhood parties have all been canceled due to COVID-19. Learn how to adapt Census 2020 outreach efforts today. 

Grant Opportunity Challenge: $1 Million to Uplift Immigrant Communities

The World Education Services (WES), Mariam Assefa Fund and the Tarsadia Foundation released a grant opportunity challenge: $1 Million to uplift immigrant communities. The grant opportunity challenge seeks to identify, test, and advance holistic solutions that empower immigrant communities, while addressing some of the impediments immigrants face. The grant application submissions will be available through May 26, 2020. Apply today !
