Good Morning Valued Chamber Member,

It is Election Day! If you haven’t already mailed in your ballot or taken advantage of Early Voting, today is the time to get out and vote! Click here to review your polling location. As is the case in every election, the outcome is determined by the people who engage in the process. Your vote is your voice, so use it today at the polls. As a business owner or manager, please encourage your employees to vote today and allow them time during the workday to participate. Don't let any inclement weather deter you!

The Boca Chamber’s Board of Directors has supported two Palm Beach County referendums that will be on the ballot:

This referendum addresses the critical shortage of workforce and affordable housing units and the overall increase in housing costs through a $200 million general obligation bond.

  • County Question 2 – Continuation of Penny Tax for The School District of Palm Beach County

This referendum addresses the continuing need for critical funding in the areas of school safety, teacher compensation, mental health support, and operational requirements through a 1 mill ad valorem levy.

NOTE: This levy was approved by the voters in a 2018 referendum and supported by the Boca Chamber.

In addition to the two County questions, there are many candidates running for elected office who are on the ballot. The Bezos Academy, a tuition-free Montessori-inspired preschool, located on the campus of Florida Atlantic University, will open in 2023. The preschool will serve children of income-eligible families, ages 3 to 5. A random lottery drawing will be held on January 10, 2023, to determine acceptance. An in-person Application Support Session will be held on November 15, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the school site, 777 Glades Road, Building 45, Boca Raton. The Golden Bell Education Foundation is proud to announce an initiative that will help close the literacy achievement gap for underperforming students in Boca Raton. In partnership with a matching grant from the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County, all13 public elementary schools throughout Boca Raton will be provided a reading intervention program for all students in Kindergarten through third grade. It is crucial to any child’s future success that they read at grade level by grade three.

The business community recognizes the importance of this initiative and wants to ensure the best possible outcome and the successful development of the future workforce. After all, today’s student is tomorrow’s business owner or employee. Five special companies believed in this initiative and provided the initial funding to allow us to receive the matching grant. A special thank you to NCCI, GEO Group, CP Group, Ellis Law Group, and Plastridge Insurance for supporting this important and impactful program.

As of today, Palm Beach County was placed under a Hurricane Warning. As we know, these storms are potentially dangerous and can change direction quickly. Be sure to review your hurricane plan for your business and home. We will share more information on our social media channels as more information becomes available. It is important to note that all of Palm Beach County’s wooden transmission polls have been replaced with either concrete or steel polls which can withstand higher winds. Great news as this storm approaches. Congratulations to FPL on this long-term initiative!

Since 1919, the 11th of November has been a day for us to thank, recognize and honor the brave man and women who served in the United States armed forces, protecting our nation’s freedoms. On Veterans Day this Friday, be sure to thank any Veteran you cross paths with and make sure they know how much they are appreciated for their service and sacrifice to our great Country!

We hope you can start your Veterans Day with us by attending the Chamber’s monthly November breakfast. Click here to register.
