Message from the DMH/DD/SUS Director

Dear Community Partner,

We are writing to share an important update regarding the sudden termination of several Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grants supporting mental health and substance use programs in North Carolina.

We have received official confirmation from SAMHSA that the termination of these grants has been reversed. Funding will continue as planned, and there will be no disruption to funding or program operations for the impacted grants.

We recognize that some partners received termination notices directly from SAMHSA. We assume that those recipients have also received official notification of the reversal. If you have not, or if you have questions about your specific award, please let us know.

We also want to acknowledge how disruptive and stressful this period of uncertainty has been. Sudden instability places real strain on staff, planning, and service delivery, and requires partners to absorb significant disruption while continuing to show up for communities. We deeply respect the steadiness, professionalism, and care you bring to this work, especially under these conditions.

NCDHHS will continue working with federal agencies and will share any additional guidance if needed. Thank you for your partnership and for the vital work you do for North Carolinians every day.

With gratitude,

Kelly
