Lovejoy Visual Arts Scholastic Awards

Through everything that has come our way, 2021 has been an incredible year for Lovejoy Visual Arts (LJVA). Our students have continued to pour their work ethic, innovative processes, and thoughtful ideation into their work, and it has been noticed nationwide! We are extremely proud of the latest recognition of our students’ efforts through one of our country's longest-running visual arts competitions; Scholastic Art and Writing. Of the 27 regional awards (our region includes 7 states), 14 pieces/portfolios received a “Gold Key” and moved on to the national competition.

Out of these 14 award-winning works/portfolios, our LJVA artists set another incredible standard with 4 artists winning National Gold Key Medals!

Grace Flinchbaugh (Sr), Molly Gornell (Sr), Madi Stutler (Jr), and Karlee Williams (Jr - 2 time Gold Key Winner) all received a National Gold Key; the highest award possible in this nationwide competition. Historically, these 4 national award-winning artists would be invited to Carnegie Hall for the National Award Ceremony but will be celebrated via a digital award ceremony this year. Please join us in congratulating all of our National Award Winners in this incredible honor! We could not be more proud of all of our students’ vision, work ethic, and personal voice within their artwork.

The mixed doubles team of Seth Henegar and Madeline Smith took home 3rd place at the Rockwall Heath Invitational. During the tournament, the mixed duo took down Plano East, Plano West and Frisco Centennial.
WSMS Band
The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Bands were evaluated this week in the Region 25 UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations. Both bands were well prepared, and played their concert selections with mastery. In the Sight-Reading room, each band delivered a strong performance of the music perused for a few short minutes. Despite the many challenges the pandemic offered to restructure and work with the band students, Ms. Ball, Mr. Whitling, and Mr. Lewis ensured students were prepared and mastered their music content. Both bands earned Sweepstakes with 1's from all adjudicators. We are very proud of the ensembles and their success.

Color Guard
The WSMS and LHS JV Guards competed in the NTCA Waxahachie Color Guard competition over the weekend. The WSMS Guard earned 1st place in their category and the JV Guard earned a 4th place in their category. The Guard program will compete for the last contest of the season on Saturday, March 27th in Mansfield. WSMS competes at 9 am, the JV competes at 10:25 am, and the LHS Guard competes at 4:15. Admission is $5, and the Guard would love to have your support!

Attendance & State Aid
Lovejoy ISD has learned from the Texas Education Agency that districts will be eligible for "Hold Harmless" state aid funding in the 4th - 6th six weeks of school IF the following conditions are met:

  1. A districts average on-campus attendance participation rate during the sixth 6-weeks attendance reporting period is equal to or greater than 80% of all students educated during the sixth 6-weeks; or
  2. A districts average on-campus attendance participation rate during the sixth 6-weeks attendance reporting period is equal to or greater than the on-campus attendance participation rate reported on the LEA’s October 2020 PEIMS Fall Snapshot.

We need your help! Lovejoy ISD needs to ensure that all students who have signed up for on-campus instruction learning for Q4 are present every day on campus unless they are officially quarantined or are absent for other valid reasons such as illness, doctor's appointments, etc.

Since Lovejoy ISD is funded on daily attendance, we need your help in ensuring we receive all possible funding. Please help us by ensuring if your student is enrolled in on-campus instruction they are physically on campus.
