Back to School Cop Out: August 8th

As summer winds down and families prepare for the start of school, please join the Blowing Rock Police Department for a community cookout.

The Back-to-School Cop-Out will be held on Saturday, August 8th at Memorial Park from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. This event supports the Blowing Rock Parent Teacher Organization. Thank you to our community partners for their donations and to our BR Police Department for hosting. Our officers will cook hot dogs, and all donations will go directly to the BR PTO.

Deer Ticks: NC Wildlife Q & A on August 21st at 10:00am

You spoke, and we are listening. At the last Town Council meeting, several people shared concerns during public comments about the prevalence of deer ticks in our area. In response, we will hold a community meeting on August 21st at 10:00 a.m. at the American Legion (located at 333 Wallingford Street - beside the parking deck).

Wildlife Officer Devon McGuire and Wildlife Biologist Jason Smith have been invited to discuss deer ticks and related issues currently facing the state. The facility offers nearby parking and will provide ample time for discussion. This meeting will give residents an opportunity to ask questions and receive information based on the concerns raised. Because Blowing Rock is a pet-friendly community, we will also discuss the importance of protecting pets from ticks. Anyone who knows me knows that Lola, my 14-year-old dog, rules my world, so pets will naturally be part of the conversation.

Law Enforcement & Fire Awareness Meetings: August 24th & September 2nd

The Blowing Rock Civic Association has also organized community meetings on law enforcement and fire awareness and safety at the American Legion (located at 333 Wallingford Street - beside the parking deck).

Blowing Rock Police Chief Kirk will speak about law enforcement in our community on August 24th at 5:00 p.m., and Blowing Rock Fire Chief Graham is scheduled to speak about fire awareness and safety on September 2nd at 5:00 p.m. We hope you will join us for these informative meetings.
