Crosswalk Improvements Update

The crosswalk project on Main Street and adjoining side streets are complete. Thank you for your patience and thank you to our Public Works staff for providing traffic control and keeping everyone safe. Their support helped reduce costs and allowed us to expand the project scope. During the project, we asked NCDOT whether the crosswalk near Chetola could be added for striping. Unfortunately, that location does not meet NCDOT’s criteria for crosswalk pavement markings due to the speed limit and relatively low pedestrian volume.

These improvements are designed to enhance the visibility of pedestrian crossings and improve citizen safety in our downtown and surrounding areas.

Thank you for helping us continue to make Blowing Rock a safer and more welcoming community.

Town Hall and all non-emergency municipal offices will be closed on Monday, September 7th, 2026, in observance of Labor Day.

Normal business hours will resume on Tuesday, September 8th at 8:00am.

Please note the trash collection service adjustment: All residential trash will be collected Tuesday, September 8th.

We wish all of our residents a safe and happy holiday weekend as we honor the contributions of America's workers.

Town Council Meeting:

Tuesday, September 8th

Our next scheduled Town Council meeting is September 8th. You can find the agenda with supplemental information on our website here.

The agenda includes a proclamation celebrating the 15th anniversary of BRAHM, the Blowing Rock Art & History Museum. Mayor Sellers will read the proposed proclamation recognizing October 1, 2026, as BRAHM 15th Anniversary Day in the Town of Blowing Rock.

I am also excited to announce that we will partner with BRAHM in October to host an art exhibition at Town Hall. Stay tuned for more details about this initiative.

If you are unable to attend, you can watch the live stream or recording of the meeting on our YouTube channel here.

BRCA Community Meeting:

Fire Safety Meeting Recap

If you missed the BRCA community meeting, handouts from the event will be available at the Library, and additional copies are available at Town Hall.

Chief Graham and community members shared a great deal of helpful information.

As fall begins and many of us refresh our landscaping with new mulch, please remember that large, deep mulch piles can spontaneously ignite if left in place too long.

Other key takeaways included:

🍳 Cooking fires are the leading cause of home fires.

🏠 Make sure your address numbers are clearly displayed so first responders can quickly locate your home in an emergency.

Fire Prevention Week is October 4th through October 10th, so now is a great time to plan ahead and prepare a checklist. Thank you to Mrs. Jean Kitchin for sharing her personal story of fire, loss, and the information she wishes she had known. We often remind residents to change smoke detector batteries each year during Fire Prevention Week, but hardwired alarms also have sensors that may need to be replaced.

We appreciate Fire Chief Graham, the residents who shared their experiences, and everyone who participated in this important community conversation.
