Dear First Congregational Church,
Since 1998, Ginger Johnson has served faithfully as our Childcare Coordinator. For 26 years, our children have been nurtured by her gentle, calming, and reliable presence every Sunday in the church nursery and preschool rooms. When our kids grow up and leave Ms. Ginger’s nest, it’s not unusual for them to continue to seek her out downstairs to enjoy another moment in her good company. Our children and youth love Ginger. So do their parents. Countless moms and dads have felt safe leaving their little ones in Ginger’s care while they attend worship.
But now the time has come for Ginger to leave the nursery and join the rest of the congregation for worship. Her last Sunday as our Childcare Coordinator will be May 26. On Sunday, June 9, during the service, we will have the opportunity to thank her for her devotion to the youngest among us! Starting in the fall, we will rejoice to see Ginger as a regular Sunday morning worship attendee and a member of the Chancel Choir.
As we begin to look for a new Childcare Coordinator, we have formed a small search team. Lianna Campos, our Minister of Faith Formation, and Brenda Laartz, a member of our church with decades of early childhood education and preschool management experience, will join me in the search. Our hope is to find our candidate in time for them to overlap their work with Ginger for a couple of weeks to ease the transition for our children.
As we prepare for Ginger’s last Sunday in the nursery, we are collecting cards and notes to thank her. If you would like to write to her, you may leave your card in the basket you’ll find in the church office. Then, join us for worship on Sunday, June 9, at 9:30 am, which also happens to be the Sunday of our ARTS Camp Musical, when we will offer our heartfelt gratitude to Ginger for sharing her gifts so generously with us for so many years. In the coffee hour that follows, there will be a cake!
With thanksgiving and joy,
