Remarkable Month of February

February 28, 2022

Greetings,

In February, the shortest month of the year, the Board packed in a lot. On February 2nd, Liz Ortiguera, PATA CEO, hosted a virtual meeting with the 2022-2023 Board, February 8th, first in-person board meeting (had two virtual board meetings in January), and February 22nd, general membership virtual meeting featuring Malaysia. Article on the NY PATA 2022-2023 Board election, written by Juergen Steinmetz, was printed in the ETN News, https://conta.cc/3sbh3Cc and NY PATA press release was printed in PATA Communications.

Thank you all for joining in on the Members’ Virtual Meeting on 2/22/2022. Joebert Opulencia, NY PATA Chairman, announced that Dine Around will resume in the Spring.

During the month of February, there were 6 newsletters emailed to members (both active and lapsed members), and this will be the 7th newsletter to Chapter members. As of March, only active members (members who have paid membership dues for the year 2022) will continue to receive newsletters, invitations, and other Chapter benefits.

To top off the month, Joebert and I were excited to receive a compliment from Liz Ortiguera, PATA CEO, on the content and style of our current Chapter newsletters.

She said, “BTW - I liked your newsletter so much that I shared it with my Executive Board Colleagues. They appreciate seeing the alignment and renewed energy there. Thanks, and regards, Liz” (https://conta.cc/3BJgNyY)

Thank you, Liz and it was great to be recognized by PATA HQ Executive Board.

Thank you everyone for your emails and best wishes to the new Board. We loved hearing from you. Stay safe and well.

Best regards,

Elizabeth Chin

Journey towards

“Tourism Destination Resilience”

PATA’s Tourism Destination Resilience (TDR) course was created to help build a more resilient tourism industry by assisting destinations in their COVID-19 recovery, but, most importantly, by preparing them for future crises that will certainly come.

Chinese Taipei - Jingzaijiao

The area not only has the renowned Beimen Crystal Church and the one and only Jingzaijiao tile-paved salt pans, but also a breathtakingly beautiful sunset.

The PATA Gold Awards 2021 Winner for Travel Photography is Chinese Taipei Tourism Bureau! "The sunset view of Jingzaijiao Tile-paved Salt Fields" captured the glistening salt fields that could be dated back to the Qing Dynasty in 1818. These salt fields are the oldest relics that still exist in the destination; it is also the most revered Salt Pan for its resemblance to Mosaic art. These features created a unique landscape for Tainan, the homeland of salt in the southern-west of Chinese Taipei.

Destination: Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a destination with stunning blues (rivers & lakes) & greens (forests, flatlands, & plains). Bangladesh is sometimes known as the “land of the rivers.” It’s got hundreds of them. It is home to the world's largest river delta, which is formed by the Brahmaputra and the Ganges River. One of the main reasons for high population density is that it is a very fertile region.  It is also a classic hotspot of eco-tourism with diverse beauty and natural wonders. On the southern coast, the Sundarbans, an enormous mangrove forest shared with Eastern India, is home to the royal Bengal tiger. It is not ranked #7 out of Lonely Planet's ‘top 10 best value’ travel destinations without a good reason!

Bangladesh now allows fully-vaccinated (full WHO-approved vaccination course) passengers from majority of the regions to enter with no mandatory quarantine. Latest travel guidelines: https://bit.ly/3h89VBN
