December 4, 2019
Dear OLMC Parents,

Good afternoon!  In this first week of Advent, OLMC School is brimming with events.  I am so grateful to our parish and diocesan priests for offering our students an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Penance tomorrow.  This sacramental grace will help to fulfill our Advent mission of preparing our souls for the coming of the Messiah. On Friday, St. Nicholas will be visiting OLMC.  During this highly anticipated visit, our younger students will learn more about the true story about this patron saint of children and of the kind deeds he performed which led him to the heights of sanctity.  Our students from 1st grade and up will be attending Mass on Friday morning as a household, and then they will join together to create Advent wreaths after Mass. On Monday, December 9, we will be celebrating the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.  This feast is normally celebrated on December 8 each year, but because this day falls on a Sunday, it has been transferred to Monday. The Immaculate Conception is celebrated at the level of a solemnity, so the students will not be assigned any written homework on Monday night and therefore will be more free to spend quality time “praying and playing” with their families.  I hope you all enjoy this no-homework night next week!

At this time, I would like to officially announce that Our Lady of Mount Carmel School will be discontinuing our current food service and will be partnering with a new company, Campus Cuisine, beginning in January 2020.  Aladdin Food Service and OLMC have always held a positive relationship, and I thank our kitchen manager, Gretchen Capo, and her staff for devoting themselves so totally to the OLMC School lunch program. Personally, I have been quite impressed with Mrs. Capo’s commitment to providing our students with healthy and well-planned lunches.  There have been many mornings that I have walked into school before 6:30 am, and Mrs. Capo was already busy at work in our school preparing for that day’s meal. Her work ethic is simply exceptional, and I thank Aladdin for the 2 ½ years that we worked together to provide a wholesome hot lunch for our students. Our contract with Aladdin will end on December 20, and we plan on initiating our new Campus Cuisine program in January.  The school will be hosting a parent night to explain more about how our lunches will operate under Campus Cuisine, and the administration will be present to answer questions that will inevitably arise during this transition. I will send you another update next week with more explicit information about our new lunch program in the Messages.

As we prepare for the noble Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Monday, I pray that our Blessed Mother will intercede for us in this season of Advent so that our hearts will be pure to receive her baby boy on Christmas morning.

O Mary conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to Thee!

Blessings on your week,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

St. Nicholas Shop Dec.3 thru Dec.5
Volunteers Needed!
The K-5 teachers have signed up for a time slot. We will be sending home a flyer the afternoon before your child's class is scheduled to shop. There is also a link to the flyer below so you can print it out if it's lost. Please be on the lookout for this and fill it out and return it with your child the following day with money so we don't have to encounter broken hearts.

There will be shopping available during lunch periods for all grades.

We need a lot of help to keep the shop running smoothly and ensure the kids have a great experience!   Please pick a time slot or several if your schedule permits. Please remember to try not to pick a time slot when your children's class will be shopping, as they want their gifts to be a surprise! The class times are noted in the SignUp Genius via the link below. Also the younger grades need the most help. Your help is invaluable and so appreciated! Please let me know if you have questions; Shelly Preston at [email protected] .

Check the pictures to see if anything belongs to your family. The glasses were found in the girl's lockeroom in the gym last weekend. The fitbit was found outside near the playground.

We strongly recommend putting names in all uniform clothing, water bottles, coats, hats, etc. Even if it is just a family last name - we do check and return items that are labeled!

Items are kept for several weeks and then donated to the Used Uniform Committee or the Merciful H.E.L.P. Center.
