February 5, 2020
Dear OLMC Parents,

We had such a blessed Catholic Schools Week last week.  The Faith Rally was very prayerful and reverent as the students adored our Eucharistic Lord and sang their hearts out in praise and worship.  I would like to thank all of the parents who served our school last week in various capacities, especially those parent volunteers who so generously covered for the teachers’ lunch and recess duties during the PTO staff luncheon.  I appreciate your time!

Now that February is upon us, I wanted to begin sending some reminders for next year.  As you know, last year the school partnered with Lands’ End to be our primary uniform provider.  This 2019-20 academic year has been an amnesty year in which students of all grade levels were permitted to wear uniform items with the old logo.  Beginning in August 2020, the new OLMC logo is the only logo that will be allowed to be worn at school.  The sweatshirts, fleeces, sweaters, and the PE uniforms are the only items  that bear the school logo, and the new version of these items can only be purchased through Lands’ End.  The old skirts, skorts, and jumpers, however, can still be worn next year because they do not bear the school logo and their color and plaid matches the patterns of our new jumpers and skirts.  You can find a sheet of Frequently Asked Questions on our school website at https://school.olmc1.org/uniform-info.   The school will continue to advertise sales from Lands’ End through the Messages from the Mount so you can purchase uniforms at a reduced price.

Also, just a reminder that when we have spirited Out-of-Uniform days, we want the students to have fun and be comfortable in their relaxed dress.  However, students are not allowed to wear jeggings or other clingy jeans; I also ask that the pants are clean and have no holes in them. Leggings can only be worn as a substitute for tights under skirts or dresses, just like the girls wear them under their uniforms.  They cannot be worn as pants, however. Thank you for your support!

May the Lord fill your hearts and the hearts of your children with the warmth of his love.

In the radiance of His glory,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

Lunch Program Updates:
Lunch Cart: If your child forgets their lunch and/or you are bringing their lunch throughout the morning, lunches should be placed on the lunch cart in the atrium. The lunch cart is taken into the cafeteria at the beginning of the first lunch. Please remind your children to check the lunch cart.

PayForIt.net refunds are being processed and should be issued at the end of January.

Campus Cuisine: lunches must be ordered by 12noon the day before. If you child gets sick after you order, please call or email before 8am the day of the lunch.
404-406-4017 (leave a message if office is closed)

Milk/Water Program: Katie Rigg is the parent volunteer in charge (separate from Campus Cuisine). Please email her directly at [email protected] with questions about milk & water only.
Daily Lunch Servers: First of all - many thanks to all of the parents that show up to serve their assignments. Our lunch program works best when everyone is there to help!

Recently, we have had 1-2 people failing to show up each day. Please remember, if you are not able to serve on your assigned day, it is your responsibility to find a substitute for yourself & make sure your Safe & Sacred Protocol status is current. We do not have a list of subs. It is recommended that you try to switch with a friend or another parent that is assigned on a day that is better for your schedule. The list is posted in the link below. If you have not already done so, please check this list and put your dates on your calendar. Email reminders are a courtesy and should not be relied upon as notification of when you have duty.

Lead Parents Still Needed for the Cafeteria:
We have a lead parent for each day of the week but we are looking for a second person for Thursdays & Fridays. The parents that are in charge on those days would like to be able to rotate with another person so the time commitment would only be 2x/month.

If you are interested in volunteering 2x/month on Thursday or Friday from 10:15-12:45 please email Katie Rigg: [email protected]

Volunteers Needed!
Greetings OLMC Parents,
We are reaching out to you because there is an AWESOME opportunity for you to help create a life changing retreat for hundreds of high school young adults who will be participating in our 25 th  Destination Jesus (DJ) retreat!  Young Adults from throughout Indiana and the Midwest will invest in their faith journey from Friday, February 14 th  thru Sunday, February 16 th .

You have an amazing opportunity to help ensure that our young adults have a safe sleeping environment and you will be allowing the leaders of DJ to get some much needed sleep so that they can be totally committed to serving the youth during the day.

I am personally inviting you to invest JUST 3 HOURS of your time during one either Friday (2/14) or Saturday (2/15) evening between the hours of 10:30 pm and 7:30 am.    We call this volunteer role “Guardian Angels”.  Why? During those three hour shifts, you will ensure that the youth don’t leave the sleeping areas that they are assigned to, and you will be there to help if any of the youth have a personal need.   To be quite honest, based on many years of volunteering, this is an absolutely beautiful time to support this amazing retreat, but is also a great opportunity to spend just 3 hours reading, praying and having personal reflection time.

To make it really easy for you, here is the link to the volunteer site – don’t hesitate to go sign up now…

I am humbly asking that you prayerfully consider offering JUST 3 HOURS of your time to support not only the youth of our Catholic Church, but also the amazing adult leaders who pour their hearts into DJ!

God Bless,
Mark Neterer

Fine Arts Night is Coming!!
Come one, come all to the annual Fine Arts Night on February 27, from 6-8pm.

Musical performances will be held in the Parish Hall. Artwork from all students will be displayed throughout the school.

Students have been busy prepping their artwork and getting it ready to be displayed in beautiful matted frames courtesy of Artome.

You will be able to purchase your child's framed artwork for $25 the night of the show or $30 until March 4. A percentage of each sale comes back to the art room so we can create more fabulous art! If you have any questions please feel free to check out their website  Artome  or email Mrs. Hinshaw at  [email protected]. Click here for more information.

From the Nurse:
Please remember, the peak of cold and flu season is also upon us and we want to provide you with important tips on how to protect your child and family from these illnesses.

  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with tissues or by coughing into the inside of the elbow. Throw used tissues away in the trash.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay away from people who are sick or not feeling well and avoid close contact with others through hugging, kissing or shaking hands.
  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects such as toys and doorknobs.
  • Seek assistance from your doctor or a health professional if you see or experience symptoms that cause concern.
  • Any student with a fever should remain at home until they are fever free without medicine for 24 hours.
  • Any student with vomiting/diarhea should remain at home until they are symptom free without medicine for 24 hours.

Additional tips on how to keep kids germ-free at school can be found  here .
