Dear OLMC Parents,

Good afternoon! We just started our new lunch program yesterday, and I am grateful that everything has been progressing smoothly. The Raider Cafe has become a bit quieter without all of the activity in the kitchen, and I have noticed that the students have more time to eat their lunches. Thank you for all of your patience during this transition to Campus Cuisine. Making a significant change in a school operation is never easy, especially when the change is occasioned mid-year. I appreciate your flexibility!

Speaking of changes, Mass in the Parish Hall on Wednesdays and Fridays have also been working out quite well. Teachers and parents alike have been remarking on how reverent the children have been, even when they are worshipping outside of the more august atmosphere of the main Church. For the next week or so, the work that needs to be completed on the painting project in the sanctuary will be done off-site. We are grateful to be able to attend the daily Masses on Wednesday and Friday back in the nave of the Church for the rest of the week and possibly for next week, as well.

We are so excited to be on the cusp of Catholic Schools Week. This annual celebration of Catholic Schools will begin this weekend as Student Council members will give a brief talk about gratitude before Masses. On Monday, OLMC School will extend their gratitude to community servants by writing letters. Tuesday is Student Appreciation Day, so the children will receive an Out-of-Uniform Day (Favorite Color Day) and will participate in a very animated Student vs. Teacher volleyball game in the afternoon. This day is a special Out-of-Uniform Day for the students since they will be permitted to wear sweatpants on this day, an item that is normally not permitted to be worn on other Out of Uniform days. Wednesday is Teacher Appreciation Day, and we will be hosting an Open House for interested families beginning at 9:15 am that morning. On Thursday, the students will express their gratitude to their parents and are invited to dress up like their parents did when they went to school. I must admit that this day is one of my favorite dress-down days since the hairstyles and outfits are so creative! Fifth grade students will also be attending the Vocations Mass at Guerin Catholic on Thursday; they will come to school dressed in their uniform, but they can change into their other clothes after they return from the Mass. The PTO will once again treat our teachers on Thursday by providing them with a delicious lunch. Finally, on Friday we will participate in the culminating activity of the week: the Faith Rally. Fr. Huemmer will be leading our Eucharistic Adoration, and Sarah Sansone will be the leader for our praise and worship. I am so grateful to them for sharing their time and talent for the spiritual growth of our children. On Friday, the students will be allowed to wear spirit-wear with jeans or khakis.

On this day dedicated to the legal protection of unborn children, we thank God for the gift of our own lives and the lives of our loved ones and we pray together that justice will be served for all human persons at every stage of life.
