Dear OLMC Families,

Happy feast of Our Lady of Fatima! As the end of the year approaches, I have many announcements to share:

  • Retirement: Mrs. Pliley and Mrs. Pitcock are retiring this year after so many years of dedicated service to Our Lady. Mrs. Pliley has served as a Catholic school teacher for 35 years, and Mrs. Pitcock for 25 years. We are so grateful for the thousands of hours they devoted to providing a well-rounded education for countless students, especially in the area of literacy. We wish them a most blessed time of retirement!

  • Mrs. Steckler, one of our first grade teachers, will be moving to Maryland this summer. Her husband was accepted into graduate school and now Mrs. Steckler will bring her teaching gifts to another classroom next year. Mrs. Steckler, we are so grateful for your two years of service at Our Lady, and we wish you the best with your third grade class next year!

  • Full-Day Kindergarten: I am pleased to announce that we are expanding our full-day kindergarten program for next year. OLMC School will be offering two full-day classes as well as a morning and afternoon kindergarten class. Mrs. Pike will continue to teach the half-day classes, and Mrs. McCain will teach one of the full-day classes. Presently, we are looking to hire another person to be the lead teacher for the other full-day class. Mrs. Balcer, Mrs. Powers, and Mrs. Gould will continue to assist our kindergarten teachers as aides.

  • Last Day of School: Friday, May 29. There will be 3 events offered to students on this day.

  • OLMC Talent Show: Miss Malone, Miss Rancourt, Mrs. Hinshaw, and the Fine Arts Committee have spent a great deal of time organizing for a virtual Talent Show. Links to that show will be sent to all school families before the show. The exact times will be determined.

  • Final Class Zoom: Teachers will host a final half-our Zoom activity to say good-bye.

  • Last Day of School Carpool (optional):  May 29 @ 2:45-3:30 pm. OLMC School intends to follow our long-standing tradition of celebrating the last day of school with a festive carpool line. However, we will need to take the proper precautions such as social distancing in order to do so. All families, therefore, will stay in their cars and drive slowly down the carpool line and wave good-bye to the teachers who will be lining the way. Carpool would end up looking more like a parade. We will also open up the sports field parking lot at this time to allow for parents to drop off used uniforms and to turn in textbooks and library books that students took home with them in March. There will also be a station where PTO representatives will be handing out the students’ T-shirts. More details about this event will be forthcoming. Only two more weeks of school; we can do this!

  • Registration: Lastly, a link for registration was sent out to all families last week. Please remember to follow that link and register your children before the end of the week. We want to keep a spot for all of our OLMC students next year before we open up spots to new families; the deadline is Friday, May 15. Blessings on your week!

May Online "Carpool" Rosary:
Each Wednesday in May at 3:15PM

As Archbishop Fulton Sheen said, "The rosary is the book of the blind, where souls see and there enact the greatest drama of love the world has ever known; it is the book of the simple, which initiates them into mysteries and knowledge more satisfying than the education of other men; it is the book of the aged, whose eyes close upon the shadow of this world, and open on the substance of the next. The power of the rosary is beyond description."

The power of the rosary is present here at Our Lady of Mount Carmel more than ever and a special May devotion is a beautiful way to invite Mary's continued love into our homes.

Would you and your children be part of this power by connecting with us at the end of our school day, this Wednesday, and praying the "online" carpool rosary from your own homes?

You will not need to bring anything because all rosary prayers and the link to the online community will be found and will be visible on your screen as you participate with the rosary.

See you at 3:15pm for roughly 15-20 minutes this and each Wednesday during this special month of May.

PTO News:
Your OLMC Parent Teacher Organization is already planning for next school year 2020/2021.
Almost all the events are supported by parent volunteers from classroom events, socials, faith rally to community outreach programs. Anytime there is an event outside the classroom the PTO probably has a part in planning.

To support these special events for your children we need your help! Please find attached a Google Form link below to get involved. Many events can be planned at home or simply sending in donations.  it is a great way to network with other parents and make new friends! I know I have formed many special relationships with parents and staff at OLMC.  Please note that your name will be forwarded to the chair of every committee you volunteer for so please only check the ones that you want to serve on.

Many Hands Make Light Work - THANK YOU so much for helping our students have an amazing school year! You are greatly appreciated!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jane Ann Gaskill, jamg2395@gmail.com
With the last day of school now being earlier than originally planned,  our last day to earn your $25 book bill credit for the 2020-2021 school year is now Wednesday, May 27.    In order to receive this credit, your family must have accumulated $100 in Scrip rebates since July 1, 2019. This only applies to families with children in K-6. 7th & 8th grade families earn credit toward their 8th grade Washington D.C. trip.

Please contact Stephanie Lesher with any Scrip questions. Thank you for supporting OLMC School via Scrip purchases!

OLMC Volunteer Spotlight:
Our spotlight this week is on Stephanie Zorger. Click here to learn about Stephanie.

We are blessed to have so many caring volunteers who dedicate their time each day to help our school and community be the amazing faith-filled place it is! We would like to spend some time highlighting our volunteers as a small way to say THANK YOU to all that they do! We are asking for your help to nominate the volunteers who give their time and talents to our school and community. Here is the link to the nomination form:   https://forms.gle/T31h7EDwU7nfKXQ7A
