Dear OLMC Parents,

Good afternoon!  The wintry weather that settled this week has really kept us on our toes.  The Lord certainly loves to surprise us! At this time, I’d like to share with you once again our inclement weather policy.  Parents will receive a communication through School Messenger in the early morning if I decide the school would be on a delayed schedule or closed altogether.  If the administration decides that the school will be having an E-Learning Day, the teachers will post their lessons that morning on Edmodo by 9 am. If I do not make a decision to schedule a delay or close the school and you feel that driving your children to school would compromise the safety of your family, please keep your children home; your children’s absences will be excused.  I never want any OLMC parents to feel pressured to bring their children to school when they judge that the roads are treacherous. My guiding principle is always safety first.

On another note, we have many events occurring at Our Lady at the end of this week.  On Thursday, we look forward to the Guerin Catholic Day of Service and then on Friday, our students will be partnering with the Merciful Help Center to participate in the annual setup of Thanksgiving baskets.  Sixth graders will assemble Thanksgiving boxes on Friday morning so the families’ food donations can be delivered by generous parishioners on Saturday morning. In the afternoon, fourth and fifth graders will be braving the chilly weather as they use shopping carts to transport food items back and forth from the Merciful Help Center to the school.  Today I specifically ask 4th and 5th grade parents who are protocoled to please consider taking some time on this Friday afternoon to monitor these students’ trips from the school over to the Merciful Help Center. Assisting with the Thanksgiving baskets is certainly worth your time. Serving our neighbors in need is truly a privilege, and what more entertaining way is there to actualize your love for the poor than by working together with excited children who are driving shopping carts?   I warn you, though, that you might get a little glimpse of your child’s driving abilities and find yourself immensely grateful to God that your child has a good five to six more years before he will be driving the family car! Needless to say, our students always have so much fun during the Thanksgiving Basket setup day. If you are a 4th or 5th grade parent and have some time to donate from 12:30- 3:00 pm, please sign up using this link. I know Jayne Slayton and the Merciful Help Center will be very appreciative!

Blessings on your week!
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

Lunch will be a sub-sack deli sandwich that day or PB&J sandwich.
Milk, water & ala carte items will be available.
