A Christ-centered community,
provides excellence in education
to meet the needs of the whole child.
October 30, 2019
Dear OLMC Parents,

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of October with first quarter squarely behind us.  Now that we are securely into the second quarter of the year, Our Lady of Mount Carmel School provides an opportunity for parents and teachers to meet together to deepen their educational partnership.  Parent/Teacher Conferences will take place tomorrow, and we warmly welcome OLMC parents who have scheduled conferences with their children’s teachers. I pray that your conferences will be entirely blessed, and that they will serve to strengthen the partnership that exists between you and your children’s teachers.

This Friday is the illustrious solemnity of All Saints Day.  It is a holy day of obligation for all Catholics, and I invite you all to join the school for Mass at 8 am.  Our fourth graders have been working diligently on researching saints young and old, and they will be having a Saints Day parade and procession after 8 am Mass.  The costumes reflect both cleverness and creativity, and I am confident that you will enjoy this extended celebration Friday morning. Hope to see you there!

In Mary, Queen of All Saints,
Sister Maria Benedicta, O.P.

Parent Teacher Conferences - What to Expect:
Parent-Teacher Conferences are next Thursday, Oct 31.

  • Park and enter the school through the main door
  • You do not need to sign in or use visitor stickers on this day
  • Please be on time, conferences are scheduled every 15 minutes

K-4 Parents: Conference times were selected on Meet the Teacher Night in August. If you do not remember your conference time, please email your child's teacher or call the school office.

5-8 Parents: It is possible that you may not have a conference. If your child's teacher feels the need to have a conference with you, they contacted you earlier in October to schedule one.

Parents are always welcome, any time of year, to email their child's teacher with any questions or concerns. Click here for our staff directory. Teacher names and emails are also listed in DirectorySpot .

Merciful H.E.L.P. Center Thanksgiving Basket Drive
Thanksgiving Basket Drive needs school parents!!
The Merciful Help Center's Thanksgiving Basket Drive is in full swing and we would love for you and your family to get involved. There are several ways to help:
  1. Turkey tags are available in the narthex this week. Stop by and pick one up and shop for the item on the tag. Then just drop it off at the MHC donation room.
  2. Volunteer! We are in great need of school parents to help us with traffic control on Friday, November 15 from 12:30-3:00.

To volunteer, go to  www.MercifulHelpCenter.org  and click Volunteer. Look for the annual opportunity section with the turkey logo and click on the link. If you are accessing it from your cell phone, click on this link:  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c4eafad2da5f94-ourlady

During this time, students will be moving the food for the Thanksgiving Baskets from the Merciful Help Center to the Parish Hall in wagons.  We need school parents to volunteer to assure that they are safe as they cross the street from MHC to the school and that they move safely into the Parish Hall.  We also have great opportunities for students and parents to work together. Whether you help collect and sort food over the next two weekends or sign up to assemble baskets on November 15 or deliver baskets on November 16, these opportunities are great ways to teach students to be grateful for our many blessings.

Through your generous support, we will make Thanksgiving brighter for 500 families in our community. God Bless You for you help!
Our next Spirit Day dining fundraiser is coming up in 2 weeks!!
Tuesday, Nov 12
We invite you to join us at Blaze Pizza for our Spirit Day on Tuesday, November 12th in support of our school. Come out and enjoy pizza that's built on their made-from-scratch dough. You pick what goes on the pizza, it gets fast fire'd, then it's ready to eat!

Blaze will generously donate 20% of the total sales to our school. You  MUST  present the flyer either on paper or your phone. Thank you for your support of this fundraiser. We appreciate everything you do to make OLMC a fantastic school for our kids!

Book Bill Payments:
The second half of the book bill payment is not due this year until Nov 30.  Historically, it has been due the day of Parent/Teacher conferences. This date was changed to Nov. 30 last year.

Of course, we will always accept payments early. Please check your records to check the balance of what your family owes toward your Book Bill Payment.
coat
Coat Drive Donations & Help:
There is a box in the school atrium for new & gently used clean coats. As you are preparing for coat season, please donate coats that no longer fit your family or keep your eye out for great deals while coat shopping! All sizes from infant to Men's XXXL are needed!

The Merciful H.E.L.P. Center works in conjunction with Hamilton County's Coats for Kids to distribute warm coats to many families in need during the winter months.

They are also in need of leadership in the coat area. We need a leader to handle coat collections in the school and in the church. (This could be a high schooler looking to gain experience leading.) Fran Pawlowski is willing to train who ever helps in this area.

We also need people to run coat donations over to our partners at Hamilton County Kids Coats to get them ready for giveaways at the HCKC giveaways, at the Merciful HELP Center and at Tools for School.
Most importantly we need workers to set up the coat giveaway at the MHC, work on the various days and to help break it down.
If this work is on your heart, please sign up! If you want to lead, please email [email protected] !
