Dear Friends,

Though life may appear linear, it rarely is. Our birthdays may number off sequentially, but little else of the human experience follows such a straightforward trajectory. We take two steps forward, then one step back. Or we go so far in one direction that we come full circle and end up in the same place, but just from the opposite direction. There is a cyclical nature to life. It comes to us in seasons.

And the same is true with faith. We don’t just progress through the life of faith as if it’s a subject to learn or a course to run. Sometimes we have to return to the starting point, and sometimes we have to peer beyond our current place and context. Every season of faith has its blessings and its challenges, and every season of faith comes around again and again.

This Sunday in worship, we are starting a new series on faith titled “Seasons.” We’re looking at the blessings that come up with each season in a life of faith and considering the challenges too. Plus, we’re asking what it means that each season of faith comes around again, sooner or later.

Whatever season of faith you may find yourself in, you are always welcome at Missouri United Methodist Church. See you this Sunday!

In Christ,

Daniel

Music this Sunday
After traveling for several weeks, I am back in the US for good (for a while, at least) and am excited to continue planning music for worship. Since the city singers and chancel choir have a few more weeks off before resuming rehearsals next month, the music in church will continue to look a bit different than usual.

This weekend, we are pleased to welcome special music guests at all of our services. In the chapel, Alec and Cori Fields will be performing "What Wondrous Love Is This." Since I have worked here, this is the first time that Alec and Cori will present a special music number, which is especially exciting. I am also happy to welcome back John Orfe for the city and cathedral services. You may remember John from his organ recital in the spring as part of the MUMC concert series or from any of the three services he played the following Sunday. At 9:30, he will play the keyboard in the city band. He will also perform special music numbers at both the 9:30 and 11:00 services.

Lastly, Bruce Jeffries will be subbing for Craig Datz on the organ in the cathedral service and has planned a few awesome pieces for the prelude, postlude, and offertory.

See you in church!

Ryan

Sunday, July 28, is the last date for the MUMC Mercy and Justice Ministry team sharing the story of MUMC’s 2024 Fill the Ark campaign (a biennial event at MUMC). We thank all of those who have participated to date with your donations!

MUMC is a little over halfway in filling its ark this year ($5,000 total cost). For Heifer’s 80th birthday, generous donors to Heifer International Headquarters will match our Ark X5. Support this ongoing global outreach ministry with a check to MUMC or use the church QR code to deliver your special donation to the church finance office by 12:30 pm on Sunday, July 28.
