Advent: A Season of Pregnant Expectation and Surrender

For roughly two weeks after the birth of my firstborn daughter, I became convinced that I was living with a goddess. As a soon-to-be father, I watched with great interest and anticipation as the life within my wife's womb grew day by day, week by week.

GREETINGS FROM PASTOR LISA IN CALIFORNIA!

Greetings to our beloved friends at UMCG! We are still getting used to palm trees and beaches, but we already feel at home with our congregation, and are now settling into the parsonage as well. I do know where our Christmas decorations are, but will I have time to put them up?!

We just enjoyed our Advent Family event celebrating Las Posadas, with craft, cocoa and carol singing, and this Sunday have a Craft Fair and Cafe. Rodney started a new job with Kaiser in this area yesterday, and Jeff starts to work at Mercedes-Benz in Memphis, TN tomorrow! He finished school here, but liked the work offer in Tennessee the best. He says he may work his way back to California in the next few years...!

We were so excited to learn your Rummage Sale and Whoville festival were great successes, and we wish you a blessed Cantata and Christmas Eve worships. We hold you all in our hearts and prayers! Many thanks again for the shared ministry we had, and the many blessings we enjoyed while with you all!

Peace,

Rev. Lisa & Rodney Telomen

MEMORY LOSS CAREGIVERS SUPPORT GROUP MEETING MONDAY AT 10 AM

Join our support group for persons with loved ones experiencing memory loss issues. We will be gathering in the Parlor next Monday, December 18 at 10 am.

We are not experts on all aspects of memory loss illnesses, but we have become pretty good at "caring for the caregiver." If you or anyone you know is a caregiver of this type, please join us. For additional information, call Linda Tamlyn at (630) 406-6907.

GET YOUR NEW NAMETAGS!

We are making new name tags for the congregation! Before we do that, we need each of you to check Elexio and make sure the name in the system is what you want to use on your name tag. We also can make tags with your choice of magnets or clips.

Please update your profile and let the office know if you need a clip name tag by December 28. If you need help setting up Elexio, please refer to this video. If you still need help, call or stop by the office.

IN OUR COMMUNITY

HELP AN ADULT LEARN ENGLISH

If volunteering is on your 2024 agenda, you will want to attend Literacy Volunteers Fox Valley’s tutor training workshop. It will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 9, 11, 16, and 18 at the St. Charles Public Library.

If you know English, you can teach English to one of the 30 adults who are eager to learn. Volunteers do not need a teaching background or a second language to help. The workshop provides material and instruction so anyone can be successful.

Each volunteer will be matched with one adult learner. Volunteer tutors and their students meet for one hour each week at a time and public location that is convenient. Students say that the best volunteers are patient, listen, and give practical information.

For more information or to register, call 630-584-4428 or visit www.lvfv.org.
