A Creative Economy Success!

On January 10, 2017, the Sacramento City Council unanimously approved the Creative Economy Pilot Project, a grant program to support arts and culture projects that stimulate economic development and activity, as well as social impact. Following the city’s grant panel process, 57 projects were funded totaling nearly $500,000.

One of the grants resulted in Vincent Damyanovich’s Living Colors: An Interactive Art Experience, an interactive moving mural of colored lights that change patterns with human interaction. It was designed as a way to promote inclusivity and well-being by bringing people together through positive participation. After three successful exhibits at the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) Arts Gallery, the George Sim Community Center, and the North Natomas Public Library, SMUD purchased the installation from Damyanovich.

On May 23rd 2019, the permanent installation of Living Colors: An Interactive Art Experience in the SMUD customer service lobby was celebrated. Included in the event were keynote speakers David Tamayo, SMUD Board President, and Dennis Mangers, Arts & Culture Strategic Advisor to Mayor Steinberg. A special performance commemorated the evening with Sara Ivy Logan on vocals, Alex Severson on keyboard, and Anastasia Sullivan on violin. The full performance is available to view at https://youtu.be/I00v2zjCzMA .
