"River Crossing: I Want To Communicate with You"
Nominations Now Open!
The City of Sacramento, City of West Sacramento, and British artist Joshua Sofaer are inviting people to participate in the creation of a unique public art project that involves the naming of two important spots along the Sacramento waterfront. The project -- called “River Crossing: I want to communicate with you” -- asks residents to nominate people they would like to have commemorated. A panel of judges will select two names: one will become the new name of a dock in Sacramento and the other of a dock to be built in West Sacramento. To nominate someone, individuals should visit the project’s website at
www.rivercrossing.name
or drop your nomination in collection boxes located at Sacramento City Hall and West Sacramento City Hall. Applicants will need to provide the name of the nominee and a brief written explanation of why the nominee should be chosen. The nomination period is from May 25 – July 10. Judges will select the names in August, and Sofaer will begin work on the light boxes in the Fall.

North Natomas Library Tech Art
The City of Sacramento, Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, a division of the City of Sacramento Convention and Cultural Services Department, invites artists and artist teams to submit their qualifications for a technology-focused interior wall hanging or freestanding artwork in the North Natomas Library, a branch of the Sacramento Public Library, located at 4660 Via Ingoglia, Sacramento, CA 95835. The selected artist / artist team will design, fabricate, and install the technology-focused artwork along the entrance lobby wall(s) of the North Natomas Library. Submissions for this opportunity will stay on file as part of Sacramento's pre-qualified artist database for tech-focused artwork.
Project Budget: $110,000

Waldorf 100: Student art exhibition celebrating 100 years of Waldorf education

Nine independent and public charter Waldorf schools in the greater Sacramento area celebrate 100 years of Waldorf education in this collective art exhibit entitled Waldorf 100. Alice Birney Waldorf School, A.M. Winn Public Waldorf School, Camellia Waldorf School, Cedar Springs Waldorf School, Davis Waldorf School, George Washington Carver School of Arts and Sciences, Golden Valley Charter School, Live Oak Waldorf School and the Sacramento Waldorf Schools work in a developmentally rich, arts based curriculum to educate with imagination, inspiration and intuition.
Founded in the early 20th century, Waldorf education is based on Rudolf Steiner’s theories of human development. The curriculum, rich in color and experience, addresses the needs of the growing child through lessons in language, movement and artistic expression.

in Washington, DC, educators will explore the meaning and practice of arts integration in schools. This conference features hands-on workshops and practical approaches to implementing arts-integrated instruction. Come to learn and share about this powerful and innovative approach to teaching.
Arts integration, with its focus on creativity and connections between art forms and curricular areas, has been shown to improve student engagement and achievement. A growing movement of schools worldwide have adopted it as a central feature of instruction.
