Dear MetroSquash Family,
In 2005, David Kay moved to Chicago to support a small group of founding board members in launching MetroSquash. The idea of using squash as a vehicle to access academic opportunity, economic empowerment, and social stability was completely new to the Midwest. Chicago embraced the mission, and students and families have come to see the program as their second home.
MetroSquash has now served thousands of students from fifth grade through post-secondary completion. Graduates lead impactful professional lives, with many returning to support their communities in Chicago and others pursuing careers across the country. In 2015, MetroSquash opened the doors of the Hussain Family MetroSquash Center, an eight court, four classroom facility where students will learn, compete, and grow for generations to come. More recently the program expanded to Evanston, where plans are underway to build a center that will have a similar transformational impact.
After seventeen years of leading MetroSquash from inception to success, David will step down as CEO in August 2023, and Janaé Meyer will become the organization’s CEO. This well-planned, thoughtful leadership transition reflects David’s deep commitment to MetroSquash. We are incredibly proud and pleased that Janaé, who embodies all the qualities that will ensure MetroSquash’s future success, will be our next CEO. She has served with distinction as Chief Program Officer for the past six years, which is any nonprofit’s most demanding job. She has been responsible for leading a team of talented professionals and building deep bonds with families and the community all while inspiring our students to incredible accomplishments.
We hope you will join us at our upcoming Gala on November 3, 2022, at the Lincoln Park Zoo to celebrate MetroSquash students and families, recognize David for his service, and welcome Janaé to her forthcoming new role.
