Mews News:

Bumper's Journey Home

Say hello to Bumper! This sweet six-month-old torbie was one of sixteen kittens born to a group of stray momma cats in the East Bay. The mommas raised their little ones together under the watchful eye of a good Samaritan, who made sure everyone was safe, loved, and well-fed.

Once Bumper and the other kittens were weaned, they were brought to Nine Lives for medical care and the chance to find their forever homes. The mommas were spayed and returned to the good Samaritan to live the rest of their lives in comfort.

Bumper needed several weeks of ringworm treatment before she was ready for her spay surgery. Now fully recovered, she's ready to start her next chapter in a loving forever home.

At first, Bumper can be a little shy, but her heart is full of love for anyone who earns her trust. Just a few chin scratches and a tasty Churu treat will have her warming up in no time. Soon, you’ll be rewarded with kneady biscuits, soulful stares, and gentle requests for tummy rubs.

Could Bumper be your perfect companion? Come meet her this weekend! Our Adoption Center is open Wednesdays through Fridays from noon to 5:00 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Liam's Corner

Autumn is here, and it's hard to believe that Kitten Season is still in full swing. Our staff has worked tirelessly all year, caring for wave after wave of fragile, sick little ones. The kittens keep coming, and we remain committed to helping every one who comes through our doors.

So far in 2025, we’ve rescued over 600 kittens — already surpassing last year’s total. Each of those kittens has a story, and I want to share one of them with you today.

Oracle was just three months old when she was abandoned at a municipal shelter. Emaciated, covered in fleas, and suffering from horrific eye injuries, she was barely clinging to life.

She needed urgent care, so our shelter partner contacted us right away. Oracle arrived at Nine Lives the following day, where her second chance — and the long path to recovery — began.

Dr. Desai and our team rushed her into emergency surgery, performing a delicate double enucleation to remove both eyes and save her from life-threatening infection. Even in the days that followed — weak and with stitches across her face — Oracle would lift her tiny head to meow at the other kittens, desperate to join their play. Her resilience is extraordinary.

Oracle has a long recovery ahead, but she is safe, loved, and healing. She’s just one of hundreds of little lives we’ve saved this year. And hundreds more are still to come.

Rescue work is relentless and expensive, but every life saved reminds us why we do it. If you can, please consider donating today to help kittens like Oracle get the second chance they deserve.

With gratitude,

Liam Montgomery
