Celebrating Lewis

Say hello to Lewis, a two-year-old orange and white tabby with lots of love to give. He is named after Lewis Latimer, a pioneering African American inventor and draftsman, in honor of Black History Month.

Born into poverty as the son of escaped slaves, Lewis Latimer defied the odds to become a self-taught technical genius who is best known for his contributions to the inventions of the telephone and light bulb. He was also an author, poet, musician, and philanthropist.

Lewis the cat came to us two weeks ago from the Stockton Animal Shelter. After receiving dental extractions, neuter surgery, and treatment for wounds on his face, he’s thriving and ready to find his forever home.

If you're looking for a sweet and gentle kitty who's all about giving hugs and headbutts, Lewis is your guy! Come by our Adoption Center and meet him this weekend.

Wheel You Be Our Valentine?

Show your love for Nine Lives by donating your used vehicle! Whether it's a car, truck, motorcycle, boat, or RV, we welcome all donations, running or not. The process is straightforward, the pick-up is free, and the best part? Your donation is tax-deductible!

To donate, simply fill out a secure online form at careasy.org/nine-lives-foundation or call (855) 500-7433. We accept all types of vehicles, as long as they meet these basic requirements: the vehicle has a clear title, the vehicle is in one piece, and it is accessible for safe towing.

Your vehicle donation fuels our mission to rescue and care for cats in need. So if you've got an old vehicle parked in your garage or driveway, consider giving it a new purpose with Nine Lives. We'll take care of the rest, and you'll feel great knowing you've made a significant impact. Thank you for your support!

Liam's Corner

I hope you and your loved ones are safe and sound after the recent storms. We've rescued quite a few scared kitties in the past few weeks who are grateful to be in our warm and loving care. Stay safe out there!

January flew by, and it's hard to believe we're already halfway through February. This month holds special significance for us in the animal rescue community as it's Spay and Neuter Awareness Month.

With kitten season on the horizon, it's crucial to emphasize the importance of spaying and neutering your cats. Did you know that only 10% of homeless kittens make it to adulthood? While we proudly rescued and rehomed over 400 kittens last year, the reality is that so many more still suffer needlessly.

Spaying and neutering not only helps control the homeless cat population but also boosts their overall well-being. It prevents diseases like FeLV, reduces cancer risk, and also offers behavioral benefits. For instance, neutered male cats are less likely to exhibit the aggressive and territorial behaviors that often result in injury.

In recent weeks, we've seen a surge in the number of injured male cats coming into our care — like Hippo, pictured here during his surgery with Dr. Desai.

Hippo arrived in dire condition, with an abscess, multiple bite wounds, and lacerations on his lower back, and scars on his face and ears — evidence of his tough life on the streets. Our team tended to his injuries, and less than two weeks after his arrival, he found his forever home, where he's safe and cherished.

Hippo (now Niklaus) at our Adoption Center (L) and in his new home (R).

Hippo's story highlights the importance of spaying and neutering our feline companions. It's vital that we all play a role in addressing this issue. By utilizing our low-cost spay and neuter clinic, you can help prevent the suffering of countless cats and ensure a brighter future for them all.

At Nine Lives, we're determined to help these cats no matter the cost. With your continued support, we can work towards a world where every cat receives the care and compassion they deserve. Thank you for being a part of our journey!

With gratitude,

Liam Montgomery
