Mews News:

Salem's Sweet Spirit

It’s spooky season, which means it's time to embrace the Halloween spirit with pumpkins, scary movies, and celebrating black cats!

While superstitions about black cats belong in the past, the reality is that black cats often spend more time in shelters and face a higher risk of euthanasia. This October, in honor of Black Cat Awareness Month, we encourage you to change the luck of one of these enchanting cats by giving them a forever home.

Say hello to Salem, a gorgeous three-month-old black kitty with a sweet spirit!

Salem’s journey began as a little stray kitty, along with her brother Thacker and momma Hway Hway, who found a safe haven in a kind person's yard in East Palo Alto.

Salem can't wait to find her forever home!

Hway Hway had been living in that backyard for nearly a year. In late June, Salem and Thacker were born, and it became clear that they deserved a proper home. After arriving at Nine Lives earlier this month, they received exams, vaccines, and spay/neuter surgeries. Soon, Salem and her family were ready for their next adventure.

Now, with her mom in a foster home and her brother in his forever home, Salem eagerly awaits her turn to find a loving family.

While Salem may be cautious when making new friends, she's all about purrs and tiny biscuits once she gets to know you. She adores head and back scratches and might even entertain the idea of a tummy rub... she's still deciding if she's a fan!

This Halloween season, why not take the opportunity to welcome Salem into your home? By adopting a black cat, you not only get a wonderful companion but also help break the stigma associated with these beautiful felines. Join us at our Adoption Center this weekend and experience Salem's spellbinding charm!

Adopt Your New Boo for $50!

We’re carving adoption fees to just $50 for any cat or kitten and opening the Adoption Center two extra days. We'll be open Thursday, October 26 through Tuesday, October 31 from noon to 5:00 pm.

11-week-old Marco is waiting to meet his forever family.

Hungry, Hungry Kittens

You can feed our hungry kitties with a quick click!

We’re still in the midst of Kitten Season, and our shelter and foster homes are bustling with adorable, active kittens waiting for their forever homes. To ensure they have full bellies and clean, comfortable spaces to thrive in, we are in need of cat food and litter.

Your small act of kindness providing a meal and clean litter box can transform these little lives. Just click here and contribute any amount from our Amazon Wishlist. (We urgently need Fancy Feast Kitten Pate and Feline Pine Cat Litter.) Thank you for helping to keep our kitties happy and purring!

More Pets and People Together

What does the concept of "More Pets and People Together" mean to you? What feeling or ideal represents how you value pets in your life, and the lives of others?

The More Pets and People Together Contest invites Californians to draw, paint, color, or create digital art showing what this means to you for the chance to win $5,000 for your favorite shelter – Nine Lives Foundation, of course!

We're asking all our amazing friends (yes, that’s you!) to create art that shows how you answer the question “More pets and people together, more ______?”.

Post it to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #PetsAndPeopleTogether or #MascotasYPersonasUnidas, and don't forget to tag @ninelivesfoundation. The submission deadline is November 11th.

More Pets and People Together... more care.

You can also download and print the contest flyer (in English or Spanish), then create your art on the front of the flyer and return it to our shelter to enter. All ages and skill levels are encouraged to apply.

For contest details, please visit californiaforallanimals.com/contest. Thank you for entering on behalf of Nine Lives!

Liam's Corner

November is just around the corner, and what a year it has been so far! A lot of us in the rescue community are shocked to see that Kitten Season is ever present. Despite the challenges, we're still dedicated to our mission of rescuing precious kittens from the streets and providing them with the care they deserve.

Sydney was our spay/neuter patient #3,000!

Today, I'm excited to share that we recently reached a significant milestone: our 3,000th spay and neuter surgery of 2023!

Sydney, the adorable calico kitten pictured here, was our celebrated 3,000th patient, and we're thrilled that she found her forever home the same week she was spayed! It was incredible to witness her transformation from a street cat to a house lioness in such a short span of time.

Spaying and neutering are not just medical procedures; they are acts of compassion, responsibility, and love.

By achieving this milestone, we're not only ensuring the well-being of countless kitties but also helping to control the homeless pet population. Just look at little Sydney, sitting happily on our lead RVT Robert's shoulder!

This achievement would not have been possible without the support of our amazing community. Thanks to your trust, dedication, and generosity, we are on track to exceed last year's totals. Let's keep this positive momentum going and work towards a world where every cat has a safe and loving home.

In honor of Latin American History Month, we're proudly naming many of our adorable kittens after Latinx heroes.

This month is a joyful celebration of the resilience, culture, and diversity of the Latinx community, and each kitten's name is a testament to the rich heritage that shapes our world.

Say hello to Sylvia and Diego Rivera, the kittens pictured here, who honor the legacy of two iconic Latinx figures.

Thank you for being a part of our journey. Together, we are truly making a difference — one surgery, one adoption, and one loving home at a time. We look forward to sharing many more success stories and happy endings with you.

Let's continue to save lives, together!

With gratitude,

Liam Montgomery
