Mews News:

When Life Gives You Lemons

Kitten season is in full swing, and we are working tirelessly to give every kitten that comes through our doors a chance at a happy, healthy life. In just the past few weeks, we have taken in over 50 kittens at our clinic and Adoption Center. Some of these kittens were rescued as part of our day-to-day efforts, while others were brought in by good Samaritans or abandoned outside of our facilities.

Meet Lemon, a 4-week-old kitten who was found abandoned with his sick littermates outside of our clinic on a dreary Monday morning. The kittens were gravely ill and malnourished, requiring urgent care from our medical team. Sadly, despite our best efforts, only Lemon survived. Despite his heartbreaking story, Lemon's incredible progress is a testament to our team's dedication and expertise, and we are grateful for the opportunity to give him a chance at a happy and healthy life.

Come to Our Adoption Event!

We are excited to announce a special adoption event happening this weekend! If you've been thinking about adding a furry friend to your family, now is the perfect time to do so.

From April 27th to April 30th, visit our Adoption Center between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm and take home an adult cat for only $75 (regularly $125) or a senior cat for free (regularly $50)!

Big Bubba, Dorothy, and Bartholomew (L-R) can't wait to meet you!

Adopting a cat is an amazing experience that brings love, joy, and companionship into your life. Additionally, with so many fragile orphaned kittens coming into our care, we need more space! By adopting an adult or senior cat this weekend, you'll not only be giving a loving home to a deserving feline, but you'll also be helping us make room for the kittens that need us most.

Don't miss this opportunity to find your purrfect match! Check out our a-MEOW-zing kitties on our website at ninelivesfoundation.org/adoptions.

Celebrating our Volunteers

April is National Volunteer Month, and we want to recognize and celebrate our Nine Lives volunteers for their incredible contributions. In 2022, 120 volunteers generously devoted over 7,500 hours of their time to support our mission. We cannot overstate the importance of their hard work and dedication, which is truly the heart of everything we do.

Our volunteers take on a wide range of roles, including cat care and enrichment, adoption counseling, fundraising, data entry, technical support, social media, and community outreach. They are the backbone of our organization, providing essential support that enables us to care for our cats and kittens and help them find loving forever homes.

We want to express our deep gratitude to all of our volunteers for the incredible work they do, which makes a real difference in the lives of our feline friends. If you're interested in joining our team, please visit our website to learn more about the various ways you can get involved and help make a difference.

And Speaking of Volunteers...!

We were delighted to welcome a group of animal-loving students from Footsteps Child Care to our Adoption Center last week. These passionate middle schoolers were eager to make a difference in the lives of our rescue cats, and they certainly delivered!

In addition to playing with our furry residents, giving them lots of love and attention, and helping with cleaning and feeding, the students also organized a donation drive to support our kitten season fundraising campaign! We were blown away by their dedication and hard work.

Fun with the Footsteps Child Care volunteers!

Thanks to their incredible efforts, we received a generous donation of over $300, which will help us provide the best possible care for our rescue kittens. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the amazing volunteers from Footsteps Child Care for their outstanding contributions. You are an inspiration to us all, and we appreciate your support of our mission to help cats and kittens in need.

Liam's Corner

I am excited to share with you about our recent trip to Animal Care Expo in New Orleans! Organized by the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Animal Care Expo is the world’s largest international conference for animal welfare professionals and volunteers.

As the Executive Director of Nine Lives, I had the privilege of attending this conference alongside some of our leadership team. It was an incredible experience that left us feeling energized and inspired to implement many of the best practices we learned from other shelter rescue leaders. We participated in workshops and seminars that covered a wide range of topics, from animal welfare to fundraising. We took copious notes and had many discussions about how we could apply these new ideas to our work at Nine Lives!

One of the highlights of the conference was meeting Jackson Galaxy, the famous cat behaviorist and host of "My Cat from Hell." We were initially star-struck, but Jackson quickly put us at ease. He had nothing but nice things to say about our small and mighty rescue, which made us incredibly proud. We also had the privilege of meeting Tabitha Kucera, an outstanding Cat Behaviorist from Chirrups and Chatter who taught us so much about how to care for and handle our rescue kitties.

Throughout the conference, we had the opportunity to network with other shelter rescue leaders from around the country. We shared stories and goals, and I was struck by the sense of camaraderie and collaboration within the animal welfare community. It was a powerful reminder that we are all working towards the same goal: to help animals in need.

Thank you for your continued support of Nine Lives. It is because of you that we are able to attend events like Animal Care Expo and bring back new ideas and best practices to better serve the cats in our community. We look forward to sharing our progress with you in the coming months.

Let's continue to save lives... together!
