MexAustin Scholarship Now Open For College-Bound Latino Students
 
The Consulate General of Mexico in Austin, in collaboration with nonprofit Foundation Communities and the Institute for Mexicans Abroad, is pleased to announce that the MexAustin scholarshipis now open for its second year. You can learn more about the scholarship, including how to apply, at www.MexAustin.com . The deadline to apply is April 30, 2017.
 
The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage Mexican and other Latino immigrants, as well as their children, to pursue higher education by providing financial aid to high school students attending college in the fall. The MexAustin Scholarship Fund will grant $1,000 scholarships to at least 140 Central Texas students.
 
The scholarship eligibility requirements are as follows: 1) First time college student; 2) Enrolling for fall 2017 semester at least part-time; 3) 2.5 High school GPA or higher; 4) You have to be a Mexican/Latino immigrant or a child of a Mexican/Latino immigrant; 5) Show financial need; and, finally, you need to reside in one of the 23 counties that belong to the jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Mexico in Austin: Bastrop, Bell, Blanco, Brown, Burnet, Caldwell, Coryell, Comanche, Coleman, Falls, Fayette, Hamilton, Hays, Llano, Lampasas, Lee, McLennan, Milam, Mills, Limestone, San Saba, Travis, and Williamson.
 
MexAustin is an initiative financed thanks to a matching fund composed of $70,000 from the Mexican Government through the Institute of Mexicans Abroad and generous contributions from universities, financial institutions, nonprofit organizations, and community leaders from Central Texas to reach a total of $140,000. We are currently looking for sponsors and partners for this year's scholarship matching fund.
