Mexican American Opportunity Foundation Celebrates a Historic 55th Aztec Awards Gala and

60th Anniversary

Los Angeles, CA, November 30, 2023 – Last night, the Los Angeles Mexican American community came together in a spectacular gathering to celebrate the Mexican American Opportunity Foundation's (MAOF) 55th Annual Aztec Awards Gala and its momentous 60th Anniversary. Hosted at the historic Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles, the event marked a dual celebration of MAOF's enduring legacy and continued dedication to empowering the Latino community.


Jerry VelascoBoard Chairman of MAOF, emphasized the foundation's ongoing mission, "This evening is a celebration of our 60 years of service, honoring the vision of our founder, Dionicio Morales, and reinvigorating our commitment to the Latino community and beyond."

The event paid tribute to four prominent individuals who have made significant contributions to the Latino community:


      José M. Hernández, Engineer and Former NASA Astronaut, received the Dionicio Morales Lifetime Achievement Award for his inspirational journey and contributions to science and space exploration.


      Esai Morales, Actor and Producer, was honored with the Entertainment Aztec Award for his remarkable career in the entertainment industry.


      Dorene Dominguez, CEO and Chairwoman of Vanir Corporation, was awarded the Corporate Aztec Award, recognizing her influential leadership and philanthropic efforts.


      Adrián González, Emmy Award-winning Sports Analyst and Former Los Angeles Dodgers First Baseman, was presented with the Sports Aztec Award for his achievements in sports.


The gala's entertainment was a highlight of the evening, featuring a special performance by Andy Vargas, the renowned lead singer from Santana. Regional Mexican singer Helen Ochoa and other esteemed guests also graced the stage, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
