Mexican wolf family at Wolf Haven one step closer to going to Mexico
We're excited to report that one of our families of Mexican wolves is a step closer to being released into the wild. The wolves are being transported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service from Wolf Haven to a facility in Mexico, with a stopover at Ted Turner's Ladder Ranch in New Mexico. The family of five critically endangered Mexican wolves will be moved from Wolf Haven as early as April or as late as mid-July, depending on whether or not the breeding female wolf shows signs of pregnancy. The three male offspring were born at Wolf Haven last spring, as part of the Mexican wolf Species Survival Plan (SSP) program.

Wolf Haven in the news
One of Mexican wolves at Wolf Haven stands in front of den box

How many wolves fit on a rooftop?

This den box is used at Mexican wolf captive breeding facilities as an alternative den (or shelter). In this 4-minute video, three of the pups (two male & one female) and the mom jump up on the roof, while the last male pup remains grounded. Near the end of the video the father enters the scene, plays with his son, and then hops up on the roof. Five wolves on a roof is one too many - game over!
