Paramedics receive first doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Moderna
New Castle County Paramedics began receiving their first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Because the Moderna vaccine can be stored at normal refrigeration temperatures (the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine requires extreme cold storage), paramedics are able to administer the vaccines without medical personnel. A second dose will be applied in four weeks to complete vaccination.
Kind to Kids delivers toys to Hope Center guests for Christmas
Caroline Jones of Kind to Kids dropped off toys and books to the Hope Center last week for children in need at the new emergency shelter. Over 100 people are staying at the Hope Center, in what was formerly the Sheraton Hotel off of I-95. Children staying at the shelter could pick from books, stuffed animals, toys and games thanks to the donation, allowing families to celebrate Christmas while in the shelter.
County Executive to be sworn in for second term on Tuesday
County Executive Matt Meyer will begin his second term in office following his swearing-in ceremony at 11am on Tuesday morning, January 5th. Meyer won re-election to a second term as the New Castle County Executive with 209,480 votes in the November 3rd general election. Meyer previously won the New Castle Democratic Primary over challenger Maggie Jones 43,833 votes to 33,735. You can view the ceremony on the County's facebook page.
County continues offering pop-up testing sites next week
New Castle County will continue offering regular pop-up testing sites across the county, in addition regular testing sites operated by the State of Delaware. Any resident can get tested regardless of symptoms and tests are free, quick, easy and painless. Results are usually returned in 24-48 hours.
