County Executive joins National Read Across America Day
New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer joined in for National Read Across America Day, joining Wilmington Author Imani Henry's 100 Men Reading Challenge and reading her children's book, "Imani and Her Magical Fairy Readers," on Tuesday afternoon. Henry wrote her first book at 10 years-old and launched her 100 Men Reading Challenge. ThruPore Technologies uses CARES grant to develop Dr. Filter
County Executive Matt Meyer along with ThruPore CEO Franchessa Saylor and NAI Emory Hill's Kevin O'Brien added the official designation to Emory Hill's headquarters certifying it as a "Cleaner Air" building on today. ThruPore and their product "Dr. Filter" were partially funded by New Castle County's Federal CARES Act allocation through the county's innovation sub-committee with an investment of $167,000. The "Dr. Filter" treatment is applied to existing air filters to improve filtration, making spaces COVID-19 safer.
County Employees recognized for years of service in special video
New Castle County's employees with 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50+ years of service are being recognized in a special video presentation this year. Normally, employees would be recognized at a service awards breakfast in their honor, but due to COVID-19 precautions that gathering cannot take place. Over 100 employees are recognized, with four serving over 50 years! To see the special recognition video, CLICK HERE.
County offering pop-up testing sites next week, including Sunday
New Castle County will continue offering regular pop-up testing sites across the county, in addition to regular testing sites operated by the State of Delaware. Any resident can get tested regardless of symptoms and tests are free, quick, easy and painless. Results are usually returned in 24-48 hours.
