North Beach Registered Resident Parking Pilot Program

The City of Miami Beach has launched the North Beach Registered Resident Parking Pilot Program.

In-person appointments are available at two sites:

Walk-ins are welcome at both registration locations.

This program allows North Beach residents to park their vehicles in designated Residential Zone 26, assuring more convenient access to parking near their residences. The initiative aims to preserve quality of life in places where residential parking is impacted by competing uses or a high concentration of parked cars.

Eligibility for the program is limited to residents who live within the designated North Beach Zone and can provide proof of residency. The program allows for up to two (2) permits per household, with additional permits to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Registered resident parking hours:

  • Fridays from 6 p.m. - Mondays 7 a.m.
  • All city-observed holidays.

TRANSPORTATION

Mount Sinai Link Service

The City of Miami Beach has launched a new Mount Sinai Link shuttle van service which provides similar service to the now discontinued Miami-Dade County Route 115 — ensuring a reliable and consistent transit connection between North Beach and Mid Beach as well as a direct connection to Mount Sinai Medical Center.

The Mount Sinai Link operates 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and serves all stops north of 41 Street previously covered by Route 115. The approximate frequency of service will be 60-70 minutes, ensuring regular service. In addition to the expanded Freebee On-Demand service to mitigate the loss of Route 115, the new Mount Sinai Link will offer a valuable connection to Miami-Dade County Bus Route 150 “Miami Beach Airport Express” at 41 Street, providing a convenient link to Miami International Airport.

41 Street Traffic Re-Circulation Pilot Program

In an effort to improve mobility for residents traveling north and south along Sheridan and Royal Palm avenues as well as crossing 41 Street, the city has implemented a pilot program during peak afternoon hours. The program began in September 2024.

Traffic pattern restrictions are in effect Monday through Friday between 3:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.

During the six-month pilot, left turns are prohibited at:

  • Sheridan Ave onto 41 Street in the SB and NB directions
  • Royal Palm Ave onto 41 Street in the SB and NB directions
  • Sheridan Ave onto 40 Street in the NB direction only

Two-way traffic is being maintained on Royal Palm and Sheridan Avenues, with police resources deployed at the intersections of Sheridan Avenue and 41 Street, and Royal Palm Avenue and 41 Street. On-street parking is not affected.

These changes are intended to ease congestion caused by the influx of vehicles that travel through this area. Learn more.

Use the Transit App to Track the Trolley

The Miami Beach Trolley Tracker is currently undergoing improvements and has been temporarily removed from the Miami Beach Gov app. In the meantime, we encourage riders to download the free Transit App for efficient and reliable trolley tracking.

Alternatively, our customer service team is available at 305.673.7117 to provide trolley ETAs directly. Users can also text the City of Miami Beach stop ID number (available on all trolley stop signs) to 786.981.4545 to receive arrival times via text message.

We are committed to providing our residents and visitors with the best possible transit experience and hope to have an integrated trolley tracker back up and running within the Miami Beach Gov App in the near future.

The Miami Beach free citywide trolley service operates 15 hours a day, from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m., 7 days a week at approximately 20-minute average service frequency along each route.

Learn more and download the Transit App.

ENVIRONMENT & SUSTAINABILITY

King Tide Season

Higher than normal tides are expected now through November 18. During this period, the City of Miami Beach may experience higher than normal tides that result in street and property flooding in low-lying areas.

In preparation for the king tides, staff continues to clean stormwater treatment systems to reduce pollutants from entering the waterways and also conduct inspections. In addition, temporary pumps may have been installed to mitigate flooding in low-lying neighborhoods.

Go Solar Together

Sign up now for the Miami-Dade 2024 Solar Co-op before it’s too late. The co-op closes to new members on February 26, 2025.

Organized by nonprofit Solar United Neighbors, the solar co-op makes it easy for homeowners and small businesses in the Miami-Dade area to go solar.

Learn more and join the co-op.

Fight the Bite

Take precautions against mosquito-borne illness by applying bug spray, avoiding areas with high mosquito populations and wearing long pants and long-sleeve shirts when possible — especially during sunrise and sunset when mosquitoes are most active.

To prevent the bite and spread of disease by mosquitoes, remember to drain and cover.

  • Flush water from water-bearing plants so they don't become a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Disposing of excess water at least once a week disrupts the mosquitoes' life cycle, preventing mosquito egg deposits and killing existing larvae in the process.
  • Survey your garden and backyard, checking landscaping for current and future locations of standing water. Mosquitoes need as little as a bottle cap of water to reproduce, so every little bit counts.
  • Eliminate all sources of standing water by emptying potential water-holding yard items, including pots, buckets and wheelbarrows weekly. Make sure to drain items more frequently following rainfall.

Gas-Powered Leaf Blower Ban & Chainsaw Phase Out Period

Gas-powered leaf blowers are banned in Miami Beach. Additionally, gas-powered chainsaws are now being phased out per ordinance 2024-4589. These initiatives are part of the city's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

The warning period for phasing out gas-powered chainsaws began on November 1, 2024 and continues until Thursday, July 31, 2025. Full enforcement will commence on August 1, 2025.

Transitioning away from gas-powered leaf blowers and chainsaws not only helps to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, but also helps to improve water quality, mitigate noise pollution and promote operational effectiveness.

BUILDING

Quick Tip - Building Code Violation Amnesty Program

Did you know that Miami Beach offers an amnesty program, also referred to as Building Code Violation Amnesty Program, which helps property owners manage the stress of civil penalties related to building code violations? This applies particularly to construction conducted without the necessary permits or under permits that have missed mandatory inspections.

It's important to understand that if you purchase a property where work has been completed without proper permits or inspections, you, as the new owner, bear the responsibility for ensuring the property meets compliance standards. A lien search won’t reveal if any unpermitted work has been done. Therefore, if you suspect any modifications were made without permits, it's wise to verify with the city or county regarding the status of those permits.

Property owners wishing to legalize any unpermitted work or expired permits can do so without facing penalties. Only fees related to obtaining new permits or renewing existing ones will apply.

For information on how to apply for this program, click here.

MIAMI BEACH FIRE DEPARTMENT

Move Over for Emergency Vehicles

When an emergency vehicle with sirens or flashing lights approaches, all other drivers must yield the right-of-way, move to the edge of the road, stop and stay there until the vehicle has passed — unless a law enforcement officer directs otherwise.

Give emergency responders the space they need to save lives. Your quick action could make all the difference!

Thanksgiving Kitchen Safety

Home cooking fires happen most often on Thanskgiving. To keep your family and home safe this season, remember these safety tips:

  1. Stand by your pan: Stay nearby and check your cooking often. If you need to leave the kitchen, turn the burner off.
  2. Watch what you are cooking: Fires start when temperatures are too high. If you see smoke or grease boiling, turn the burner off.
  3. Turn handles inward: With more traffic in the kitchen, keep pot handles turned toward the back of the stove to prevent spills.
  4. Keep a lid on standby: In case of a flare-up, cover the pan with a lid or baking sheet to smother the flames quickly.

Enjoy a safe Thanksgiving! For more fire prevention tips, click here.
