Heat Season
Heat season began on May 1 and continues through October 31, when temperatures in our area can become excessively high. During this time, it’s important to take extra precautions to protect yourself and others:
- Stay hydrated throughout the day
- Wear light, breathable clothing
- Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours

Fertilizer Ban
Biscayne Bay provides recreational, cultural and economic well-being for our entire community. To help keep the bay healthy, the City of Miami Beach has prohibited the use of fertilizer application from May 15 through November 1. Show our bay some love and help keep it fertilizer free.
Visit www.MBRisingAbove.com/fertilizers for more information on fertilizer application outside of the restricted period.

Sea Turtle Season is Here!
Sea turtle season in Miami Beach began on April 1 and runs through October 31.
Our beach is a crucial nesting habitat for sea turtles. As sea turtle hatchlings make their way from sand to sea, the stark contrast between the darker dunes and the reflection of the moon over the ocean helps them determine where to go.
Artificial lighting near beaches presents a significant hazard by confusing sea turtles and leading them to mistakenly crawl toward the artificial lights instead of heading to the ocean. Turn off the lights to help keep sea turtles safe!
Do not disturb or touch nesting sea turtles or hatchlings. Report any disturbances or lost turtles to Florida Fish and Wildlife at 1.888.404.3922, to Miami-Dade County Government at 305.310.3046 or to Miami Beach PD at 305.673.7900. Let's protect our beach ecosystem together! View the video below for more information.

Take Miami-Dade County's Zero Waste Community Suvey!
Miami-Dade County has been working to reduce waste for decades. In 2021, the county set bold zero‑waste goals, and in 2022 Mayor Daniella Levine Cava proposed making Miami‑Dade a Zero Waste County, inviting the community to weigh in.
So, what does Zero Waste mean for Miami-Dade? It’s the goal of keeping 90% or more of our waste out of landfills by reusing, recycling and finding better uses for materials. It builds on “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” and adds new ideas like “Refuse,” “Redesign” and “Reimagine.” The county plans to weave these strategies into the waste system already in place.
Now they need your help. Transitioning to a Zero Waste County will take strong community participation. As they develop the Zero Waste Master Plan, your input starts here:
• Complete the Community Survey (English)
• Complete the Community Survey (Spanish)

Sargassum
Recently, you may have noticed an accumulation of sargassum (seaweed) along our shoreline. The city has coordinated with Miami-Dade County Parks to maintain our beaches where their crews use beach-friendly equipment to blend the sargassum across the 7.5 mile beach daily. Also, in state-approved locations, a county vendor removes the buildup of sargassum.
Prior to operating the heavy equipment, the Miami-Dade County Parks Sea Turtle Program surveys the beaches for nests and hatchlings. Once these surveys are complete, beach operations can begin the cleanup efforts and will continue throughout the day.
As always, we remain committed to keeping our beaches clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone. Check out the video below to learn more.

Plastic-Free Party
Help keep our ocean and Biscayne Bay plastic-free while protecting our Miami Beach ecosystem!
While glitter, balloons and plastic decorations may be eye-catching at a party, they are harmful to marine life and pollute waterways. Balloons, along with plastic and metallic confetti, glitter, tinsel, synthetic flower petals and mylar streamers, are prohibited in public marinas, parks and beaches.
Environmentally friendly decor alternatives include natural fiber or paper-based garlands, banners, streamers, pompoms or pinwheels, natural flowers, bubble-blowing solution and kites.
And no matter what your decor is made of – always remember to pick up and dispose of it properly when your celebration is over.
Fines range from $250-$5,000 as per Section 82-74 of the City Code.

Pick Up After Your Pet
Pet waste can take a huge toll on the environment if it is not cleaned up properly. It is a contributing pollutant that affects our water quality. Support the efforts of Operation Clean Water by picking up after your dog. Forgot your pet waste bag? No problem! Pet waste stations are located throughout the city. Learn more.

Fair Housing Spotlight
Did you know that neither service animals nor emotional support animals count as pets under national fair housing law? This means that none of the rules that a condominium complex, apartment complex or homeowners’ association has concerning pets apply to service and emotional support animals. No pets allowed rules do not apply to them, restrictions on what areas pets are allowed in do not apply to them and pet rent or fees do not apply to them, as they are legally not pets.
So, if you have a service or emotional support animal and your housing provider or homeowners’ association is trying to deny your legal right to this assistance animal or treat it as they would a pet, call HOPE inc Fair Housing Center immediately at 305.651.4673.
