Asian American Advisory Board holds
AANHPI Heritage Month Kickoff event

On May 2, the Miami-Dade County Asian American Advisory Board (AAAB) kicked off Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark Center. The event, organized by the AAAB Executive Board and the AANHPI Heritage Month Committee, featured live performances showcasing the contributions of these communities in arts, sciences, government, military, commerce, and education.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava delivered the opening remarks. AAAB 1st Vice Chairwoman Luna Adachi and North Miami Beach Commissioner Lynn Su—who made history as the first Asian American elected official in the city—delivered the keynote address. Miami-Dade County Commissioner Eileen Higgins and AAAB Chairwoman Tai Vaz provided closing remarks. This year’s theme, “A Legacy of Leadership and Resilience,” was emphasized throughout the celebration.

Asian American Advisory Board
takes Miami Cultural Tour

On May 17, in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau's Multicultural Tourism Department and the American Jewish Committee, the Asian American Advisory Board (AAAB) celebrated the Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Jewish American Heritage Month with a cultural tour highlighting some the cultural attractions connected to Asia in our destination.
The AAAB visited the On Leong Chinese Merchants Association, Ichimura Japanese Garden Miami, Jewish Museum of Florida - FIU, Sacred Vedic Arts Bhakti Yoga Cultural Center, and had great food from Abbale' Telavivian Kitchen.
| Older Adult Resource Fair connects seniors with services | On May 20, the Miami-Dade County Elder Affairs Advisory Board (EAAB) hosted its annual Older Adult Resource Fair in Hialeah, attracting more than 200 attendees. The event featured 55 local agencies, vendors, and healthcare providers offering critical services, information, and community support to older adults and caregivers. Attendees were able to access on-site assistance for a variety of issues. Participating organizations included AARP, the Alliance for Aging, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Dade Legal Aid, offices representing several elected officials, various County departments, and many local businesses. Seniors enjoyed a festive atmosphere with food and entertainment. | |

Older Adult Resource Guide
| The Miami-Dade County Elder Affairs Advisory Board has just published an updated version of its “Older Adult Miami-Dade Resource Guide,” bigger and better than ever. The Guide is a comprehensive list of organizations, services, and government offices that can assist seniors in Miami-Dade County. Additional information and resources on elder issues can be found at the Alliance for Aging, AARP Florida, and the Senior Planet Center in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood. | |
New driver license services at
Miami-Dade Tax Collector’s Office
| The Miami-Dade County Tax Collector, the Honorable Dariel Fernandez, has established a new Driver License Service Point at the Tax Collector’s Office, 200 NW 2nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33128. Three service windows are exclusively dedicated for driver license and motor vehicle transactions; both walk-ins and appointments will be accepted. Customers can conduct most driver license transactions, with the exception of driving tests. Learn more and make an appointment here. | Mom and Pop Small Business Grants now available | County Commission Chairman Anthony Rodriguez (District 10), County Commissioner Marleine Bastien (District 2) and County Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis (District 6) are now accepting applications for Mom and Pop Small Business Grants. These grants, ranging from $2,500 to $5,000, provide funds for small businesses in their respective districts to purchase equipment, supplies, inventory, security systems, and advertising services and to make minor renovations. The application deadline for District 2 is June 19, for District 6 is June 23 and for District 10 is June 23. | Strive305 HUB: County’s one-stop resource for small businesses | In December 2024 Miami-Dade County launched the Strive305 HUB, an all-in-one resource platform for small businesses. At the Strive305 HUB, small business owners can find information on resources, workshops and trainings, loans, events, etc. Powered by Miami-Dade County and funded and sponsored by Wells Fargo, the Strive305 HUB makes it easier to find the resources and tools that small business owners need to be successful. Another helpful website is Axis Helps, with information and resources for both small business owners and individuals in need. | | Don’t forget to request a Vote-By-Mail ballot | Due to recent changes in Florida law, all requests for vote-by-mail ballots expired at the end of 2024 so any request on file with the Supervisor of Elections has expired.
