As Chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, it is a great pleasure to recognize the valuable work that is undertaken by the Office of Community Advocacy and the advocacy boards they support. As our county continues to grow, our commitment to creating platforms and giving a voice to every member of our society should be maintained. These efforts are spearheaded by the experienced staff and the volunteer residents that are appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
The diligent work of these individuals is done on behalf of the public to help residents foster an atmosphere of mutual respect and understanding here in Miami-Dade County, one of the nation’s most dynamically and culturally diverse metropolitan areas. The Office of Community Advocacy creates a sense of cohesion amongst our residents, which strengthens our government. The various advocacy boards do not only engage the myriad of cultures and communities that call Miami-Dade County home, but they also make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners to set policies and establish laws that reflect the needs of our growing county.
The importance of the Office of Community Advocacy cannot be overstated. It gives the County Commission greater insight on issues impacting our community, especially our most vulnerable populations.
On behalf of the residents of Miami-Dade County, I would like to thank the staff and advocacy board members for choosing to serve our community and for doing such an excellent job. I am confident that the open lines of communication created by staff, advocacy board members, and my fellow commissioners will grow us into a stronger, more resilient, and more thoughtful Miami-Dade County.
With Gratitude,
Chairman Oliver G. Gilbert, III
District 1
