April 2024

Ohio is considered a prime viewing spot for the solar eclipse on Monday, April 8, 2024, at approximately 3:10 p.m.

Miami Township residents are expected to look skyward to watch as the moon completely blocks the sun. We want to be sure you are safely viewing the event. Here are some links to expert information about the eclipse:

General information:

  • You must wear proper eyewear for viewing. Eclipse glasses should comply with ISO 12312-2 international standards.
  • Rumpke Trash and Recyling will start routes early on April 8 to avoid any issues. Crews will begin collection at 2 a.m., so for residents whose trash day is Monday, put your trash out Sunday night so that you do not miss the pickup. Regular pick up times resume Tuesday, April 9.
  • Traffic is expected to be heavy in and around the region, so we suggest watching from home. If you do travel, be patient, have a full tank of gas or electric charge and expect delays.
  • Miamisburg, West Carrollton, Carlisle and Bishop Leibold schools are closed April 8. Dayton Christian School will have a 2-hour early dismissal.
  • Have food, water and extra prescription medications available should you get stuck somewhere.
  • Hope for clear skies! Have fun! Be safe!

Zoning Inspection 101

Zoning inspectors are possibly the most misunderstood people around. They have a tough job handling complaints about homes and businesses that are not up to code. Miami Township has one full-time inspector. The zoning inspector takes complaints via email, by phone or online, then makes a daily list of addresses to visit.

Complaints include unkempt lawns, trash piling up and downed gutters. There were 270 service calls submitted in 2023. There were 249 violations issued. Read more

This is the first in a series of newsletter articles that will introduce you to the Miami Township Zoning Department. If you would like to learn more about a particular topic, please EMAIL us your story idea.
