Leaf collection begins October 30

Leaf season is here. While they may be pretty to look at, clearing fallen leaves away is another story. The township leaf collection program begins the week of October 30, 2023. Be sure to place your leaves at the curb's edge and our Public Works crews will be by to remove them. We are planning to do daily updates this year on our website. This will better inform you of where our crews are on any given day. Crews typically make three or four passes a year through the first week of December.

RTA unveils Miami Township bus

Part of Proudly Serving campaign

If ever our #miamitwppride is showing, it sure is now! The Greater Dayton Regional Transit Authority selected Miami Township as one of 21 communities for its Proudly Serving campaign.

The township RTA bus recently stopped by the Government Center on its route to serve the community. The design is a combination of custom paint colors and vinyl graphic wraps. The photos show township bus stops, including the Dayton Mall, Austin Landing, Waldruhe Park, Cox Arboretum and the Dayton Metro Library-Miami Township branch. The RTA south hub is located next to the library on Lyons Road.

“Too often in our busy lives we overlook the great places all around us in the communities we each call home,” RTA CEO Robert Ruzinsky said. “These buses highlight some of the great places in these diverse communities, and, we hope, foster increased community pride throughout Montgomery County.”

Cara Wood was in charge of the bus graphic design. It just so happens that Wood lives in Miami Township!

“Every time we finish a bus, we get to meet people in that community. Building relationships and communicating with our customers is very important,” Cara Wood, RTA senior graphic designer, said.

Keep an eye out in the months ahead for the Proudly Serving Miami Township RTA bus!

Road crews plan for resurfacing

You probably saw our road crews a lot in recent weeks. The Road Department is assessing roadways in the Country Walk and Heritage Glen neighborhoods. Crew are preparing a resurfacing plan for 2024.

“We are looking at infrastructure and developing plans for moving forward. Plans are in motion now for Country Walk and Heritage Glen. We are also investigating improvements around the Munger Road area for 2025,” Public Works Director John Schweickart said.

The department wants to resurface roadways that have a poor pavement condition rating and identify streets that could be preserved through cost-effective methods such as microsurfacing.

“As we look further ahead toward 2026 and 2027, we have streets in the Kingswood area and Huber South subdivisions that need resurfacing.”

If you have any questions, please contact Public Works Director John Schweickart at (937) 866-4661.
