Michael Fitzgerald
Finding Fulfillment in Action
“My entire time in Fairfield was a big inward stroke that prepared me to take on all these responsi-bilities now.”
MIU alumnus Michael Fitzgerald learned the Transcendental Meditation® technique in 2008 and enrolled at MIU in 2012. “I was excited to learn more about Maharishi’s technologies and take advantage of the opportunity to develop myself,” he said.

Michael has always been interested in technology, so he earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a computer science specialization. After graduating in 2016, he worked in digital marketing for a Fairfield company.

When the Masters in Software Development program began in 2019, Michael was eager to expand his programming skills and become a full-time MIU student again.

During the Covid pandemic, he paused his studies to work at Maharishi School as IT administrator and also developed and taught a technology curriculum in the middle school.

Michael completed his master’s in 2021 and moved to Seattle, where he found a job at Fresh Consulting as a software developer.

Michael is also interested in sports, including ice hockey and golf. While living in Iowa, he began refereeing at hockey games in Iowa City and Cedar Rapids on Sundays. When he moved to Seattle, he became a USA Hockey on-ice official, refereeing youth, college, and recreational adult games. He is also employed by the National Hockey League as a member of the Seattle off-ice officiating crew, responsible for scoring Seattle Kraken home games.

“In this chapter of my life I am on a very outward stroke, and I am getting a lot of joy from action,” said Michael. “I am still integrating the TM program into my routine and get a lot of value from it. My entire time in Fairfield was a big inward stroke that prepared me to take on all these responsibilities now.”

Michael still finds the time to play golf, and is a member of the Amateur Players Tour, where he competes in APT-sanctioned events around Seattle. He also participated in the APT North American Championship in Nashville earlier this year.
