On 12 November Michelin announced it had bought PTG and Téléflow - both industry leaders in tyre pressure control systems which allow users to monitor and adapt tyre pressures according to the terrain and conditions of use. These acquisitions signal Michelin's intention to become the global leader for Central Tyre Inflation Systems (CTIS) in the agricultural market.

Aeolus has launched its third generation of truck and bus radial tyres in a large dealer event on the shores - and water - of Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. Readers of Tyres & Accessories will know that this location is highly appropriate for the Chinese company; the introduction of the new, extensive product range comes at a moment when the ChemChina produced brand is preparing for its future positioning as a second-line sister range to Pirelli in the commercial segment. While the exact relationship of Pirelli and Aeolus continues to be fluidly complex, the Italian brand's recent separation of its commercial tyre operations under the Prometeon Tyre Group banner give a good indication of where Aeolus commercial tyres are heading.

Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. has reported net sales of 466.79 billion yen in the first ninth months of 2017 - a new record for this period. Of this figure, 333.13 billion yen was generate by sales of tyres (excluding Alliance Tyre Group operations, which are included in the firm's accounts following the business' acquisition in September 2016).

In the ATG segment, sales of tyres for agricultural machinery, industrial machinery, and other off-highway applications increased in the original equipment market and in the replacement market in line with management's expectations. 
In the vehicle type segment, the utility vehicles are expected to stay the dominating type in the global automatic tyre inflation system market. The segment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.5 per cent during the projected period. The tractors segment is expected to reach market revenue of a little under $420 million by the end of 2017 and is anticipated to exceed $720 million by the end of 2027, growing at a CAGR of 5.6 per cent. 
The Pirelli Calendar is a survivor. While other pin-up calendars from within our industry have long been banished to workshop tearooms to avoid offending customers, Pirelli's handiwork is hailed as iconic by countless people around the world, including those ignorant of the company's day job as tyre maker. Followers of this most famous of all corporate freebie calendars eagerly await the launch of a new edition, and today their cup of joy is surely overflowing. At a high-budget event in New York, Pirelli has unveiled next year's Cal.  
Marian Gabris has joined Triangle Tyre Europe as sales director for Eastern Europe. Gabris has more than 21 years of sales experience in the tyre industry, having started his career in 1996 with Matador. 
This January, The Tyre Equipment Company is returning to the LAMMA agricultural and machinery show in Peterborough, to showcase its range of workshop tools and equipment.
Giles Rayner of Nissan has been confirmed as the final speaker in the line-up for the Vehicle Remarketing Association's free-to-attend Annual Seminar, taking place next week (23 November). 
New figures from the DFT showed that over 100 cyclists are injured in accidents caused by crumbling roads, because councils are failing to fix potholes as they are not deep enough.

The range of tyre companies participating, supplying, and sponsoring motorsport has arguably never been as broad, creating a vibrant scene for brand building and product development. Tyres & Accessories' December issue will feature a supersized Motorsport section reviewing 2017's biggest and most interesting series, and looking forward to the 2018 season.
Tyre changers and wheel balancers
As cars continue to become more connected and complex, the role of garage equipment continues to evolve rapidly, helping to diagnose, fix, and calibrate a broad array of new car part functions. The tyre and wheel servicing business has been a particular focus for producers of equipment relating to TPMS, for example, integrating the newest safety requirements accurately and seamlessly into the process of changing a tyre. While these additional services bring natural opportunities for increasing revenue, it is also important to maximise efficiency for the quality of customer service and to ensure the safety of vehicles on the road. Tyres & Accessories will look at how the latest tyre changing and wheel balancing machinery is meeting the current environment in the December issue.
Review of 2017
