Division of Hospital Medicine
Dear Friends,

I hope this newsletter finds everyone in good health and spirits!

We introduced you to our new faculty in the Summer edition of our newsletter. In this edition, we wanted to give you the opportunity to learn more about them .

In September, the 10 East Medicine Unit at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (MSJ) , a collaboration between Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and Michigan Medicine, celebrated its one year anniversary. I would like to thank Director, Dr. Rafina Khateeb and Assistant Director, Dr. Ruby Marr, and every faculty and staff member who has been involved in making this service such a success! You can learn more about MSJ below.

As some of you have probably heard, S anjay Saint, MD, MPH, MACP was named Master of the American College of Physicians (MACP) . He was one of two faculty members selected from the University of Michigan this year. This is a prestigious recognition that a select few receive and I'm proud to have him as both my colleague and friend. Please help me in congratulating Dr. Saint on this significant achievement!

Many of you reading this are alumni of the program and are thinking about donations and giving at the end of the year. I would like to ask that you keep our Division in your thoughts when you are considering these decisions. Your support can help enrich our programs and our faculty well-being in important ways. To learn more about how to donate and how your gift will support the Division, please visit our Make a Gift page.

This will be our last newsletter of the year. I hope that you enjoy hearing about what we've been doing as a Division. I want to encourage you to share your comments and suggestions for future issues at  umhospitalmedicine@umich.edu . 1 Year Anniversary of 10 East Medicine Unit at St. Joe's

The collaboration between Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and Michigan Medicine, 10 East Medicine Unit at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor (MSJ) , just celebrated its 1 year anniversary. The service is led by Director, Rafina Khateeb, MD, MBA and Assistant Director, Ruby Marr, MD with a vision to improve patient access to Michigan Medicine. Since launching in September 2018, the service has:
  • treated over 1,600 transferred patients

  • received extremely positive feedback from patients treated on the unit and their families

The Hospital Medicine Division leadership would like to thank the entire team for providing excellent patient care and for their hard work in transitioning this vision into a reality.

In celebration, the entire Division, as well as their families, were invited on a kayaking expedition (1.5 hours/3.7 miles) from Argo Park to Gallup Park on September 8. After the kayaking trip, people gathered at Island Lake Park to play cornhole and enjoy good food.
