Make a Difference This March

March for Veterans is BVL’s campaign to unite the bowling community nationwide in support of those who served our country.

BVL, the Bowling Veterans Link, connects the sport of bowling with programs that directly improve veterans’ lives through innovative therapies, service dogs, and advanced technologies such as immersive wellness experiences.

While BVL fundraising takes place year-round, March for Veterans is a special opportunity to come together with renewed purpose and honor our nation’s heroes by making a meaningful impact during the month of March.

Open Championships Updates & Information

Important Update Regarding Scratch Participation Confirmation for Michigan State USBC Open & Women's Championships

Michigan State USBC is introducing an additional confirmation step for the upcoming Open and Women’s Championships to ensure clarity and accuracy regarding scratch participation.

Why This Update Matters

Participation in the scratch portion of the tournament must be clearly verified for each bowler. To eliminate confusion and last-minute issues, a new, dedicated scratch participation confirmation letter will now be included as part of the confirmation process.

Youth Tournament Reminder for Coaches

Please review your tournament confirmations for any bowlers with a starred 210 average. A star indicates the Michigan State USBC office needs average verification.

Verification should be submitted at least 10 days before the bowler competes. To help ensure a smooth check-in process.

Tournament confirmations were sent to the coach on record. If a parent does not have the confirmation, please contact the coach.

Celebrating 50 Years of Tournament Participation!

During the Women’s Team Event at Bowlero Family Fun Center in Battle Creek, Edie Anderson and Cherylle Secl-Cross were recognized for an incredible milestone, receiving their 50-year tournament participation awards.

Edie Anderson, a member of West Michigan USBC, was honored for her milestone achievement. One of her most frequent teammates has been Pat Gustman, and the two have bowled together for more than 25 years.

Cherylle Secl-Cross, a Grand Rapids member and Association Manager of Greater Grand Rapids, was also honored during the event. The recognition came on a special day, the same day her husband Pat celebrated his 90th birthday.

Congratulations to Edie and Cherylle on competing in their 50th tournament. Thank you for 50 years of dedication to bowling. What an incredible accomplishment!

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Coach Tom Stockton

Honoring more than 25 years of dedication to Michigan High School Bowling and the countless athletes he inspired.

We are taking time to remember one of the icon’s of High School Bowling…Tom Stockton. We first met Tom in 2003 as we a newly fledgling High School Sport recognized by the MHSAA. Tom was Leader of one the most talented and successful Bowling programs in the State: The Sterling Heights Stevenson Titans.

But Tom was not only centered on his own program, unlike many coaches, who remain only with the success of their own programs, he had a vision, that with others creates a state wide organization that would promote High School Bowling in the State of Michigan. He took a leadership position outside of his own teams.

Tom was one of the charter coaches in the formation of the MHSIBCA, the Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Association. He took the long time position of 1st Vice President. Being in that role he could be a part of building the future of our sport in schools. His goal was to build other programs that would lead to the growth of High School bowling in the state. This would create another avenue for athletes who would never have a chance to represent their school and wear their school colors.

His host center of Sunny Brook and its proprietor Randy Shank were instrumental in 2004 hosting our first Class A, Class B and Class C/D state finals. With our sports growing popularity, we quickly out grew a one center state tournament host.

Tom continued his involvement in our sport by accepting a position, when the MHSAA came calling. The MHSAA needed a ClassA/D1 state regional site and finals tournament manager. Tom continued his involvement in our sport by accepting the post season manager’s position.

He also saw an opportunity to create another avenue for our younger athletes, to spearhead the creation of our JV state Championships. This is one of the very few High School tournaments, recognizing future varsity players and giving them a chance to compete on a state wide level.

We could continue to write a book of Tom’s 25 plus years of service to High School youth, it all comes down to this…Tom’s mark on our sport and the hundreds of athletes he touched gave them a love of a lifetime sport and to us his fellow coaches, a lifetime friend.

Remembering Bruce Marshall

We mourn the loss of Bruce Marshall, a dedicated member of the Lansing USBC family.

Bruce’s service to bowling spanned decades. He served more than 20 years as Association Manager, over 30 years as a local league secretary, and also contributed his time and leadership to Michigan State USBC. Through these roles, he made a lasting impact on bowlers and organizations throughout the region.

Bruce was inducted into the Lansing USBC Hall of Fame, recognizing the commitment and leadership he brought to the sport. His work supporting local veterans and the Bowlers to Veterans Link (BVL) further demonstrated his dedication to serving others through bowling.

Bruce’s contributions, leadership, and friendship will be remembered by many in the bowling community. His legacy stands as a testament to his lifelong dedication to the sport and to those he served.
