Enzymatic digests of casein and enzymatic digest of animal tissue provide nitrogen and vitamins for the growth of fungi. The high glucose concentration along with the acid pH make this medium particularly well suited for cultivating fungi. Chloramphenicol is a broad-spectrum antibiotic for inhibiting a wide range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. Chloramphenicol is already included in the formulation and does not need to be separately supplemented.
