New Number-Matching Feature on the Microsoft Authenticator App

To All Mohawk Medbuy Staff,

Microsoft has recently upgraded the security features for multi-factor authentication (MFA) with a "number-matching" feature on the Microsoft Authenticator App. This will affect the login process for some MMC staff when signing in to their Microsoft accounts.

Who will have the number-matching feature?

This only applies to MMC staff who have enabled push notifications on the Microsoft Authenticator App on their mobile device. Users who have updated their Microsoft Authenticator App to the most recent version or have enabled auto-updates should already see this feature.

What if I don’t use Microsoft Authenticator's push notifications?

Your login process will stay the same. This change only impacts those who use push notifications to sign in.

How does it work?

When signing into your MMC Microsoft account, you will be shown a 2-digit number on your screen. You will be prompted to enter that number in the Authenticator App on your mobile device. See the images below for further instructions.

Here's what the prompt on your screen will look like:

Open the Authenticator App on your mobile device, enter the number shown on your screen in the "Enter number" field and tap "Yes."

What else do I need to do?

If you're already using the latest version of Microsoft Authenticator, you don't need to take any further action. The new MFA number-matching feature has been implemented automatically.
