Microsoft Copilot Is Already in Your M365 Subscription
Here’s what it actually does — and whether it’s worth turning on
If your business uses Microsoft 365, you already have access to a range of AI features built directly into the apps your team uses every day — Word, Outlook, Teams, and Excel. Microsoft has been rolling these out under the Copilot brand, and many of them are available at no extra cost depending on your subscription tier. Most small businesses we work with have no idea they’re sitting on tools that can save several hours a week.
In practical terms, Copilot can draft emails in Outlook based on a few bullet points, summarize long email threads you haven’t had time to read, generate a first draft of a Word document from a short prompt, recap what you missed in a Teams meeting, and suggest formulas in Excel. It won’t replace judgment — you still review and approve everything — but it removes the blank-page problem and speeds up tasks that used to take 20 minutes.
The catch is that Copilot features need to be enabled and configured correctly, and some of the more powerful capabilities — like meeting summaries and advanced document generation — require a paid Copilot add-on license. We’re happy to walk through what’s already available in your current plan and what’s worth adding. For most businesses, even the free tier delivers real value once it’s turned on.
