President's Message
The Rise of the Marketing Technologist
By Debbie Leitner - Senior Practice Manager, Katten Munchin Rosenman LLP

In the past few years, we have seen the emergence of ever more complex and impactful technologies, from artificial intelligence, to cryptocurrencies, to blockchains and the Internet of Things. How will statues and legal frameworks evolve to address the growing disruption in these areas? How will law firms engage differently with policy makers, regulators and private sector corporations? And beyond the external impact these technologies will have to legal clients, what will they mean for the legal industry itself?

Q&A: Marketing Technologists: Must Have Roles in the Digital Age
By Jacqueline Madarang - Senior Marketing Technology Manager, Bradley LLP

A new type of marketer is emerging in legal - a marketing technologist. Often referred to as "unicorns" because we are a rare breed, marketing technologists at law firms are at the center of digital transformation. In this article, I asked my fellow "unicorns" in the LMA Mid-Atlantic region who have given rise to the evolving marketing technology role their thoughts on marketing technology, or martech.

Tales from the Trenches: How My Firm Successfully Launched a New Website and What I Wish I Knew Sooner
By Ashley Smith Rosenblatt - Marketing Coordinator, Gordon Feinblatt LLC

A year ago, my firm launched its long-awaited third generation website. The project took nearly a year and a half to complete. Our team was beyond excited to finally "go live," but not without first thoroughly considering all of the things that could go wrong upon launch. Here are seven tips when working through the quality control process and executing the launch that I've gathered from my own experience.

By Ashley Hollingsworth - Marketing Communications Specialist, Miller & Chevalier Chtd.

Three Ways to Mine Email Analytics for Business Development Opportunities
By Gina Eliadis - Content Manager, Baker Donelson P.C.

Your email analytics are full of business development opportunities. The trick is finding them. Getting Ahead
Looking Back to Move Forward: The Art of the Post-Mortem
By Ashley Hollingsworth - Marketing Communications Specialist, Miller & Chevalier Chtd.

There's nothing more satisfying than completing a major project or presentation. You get to enjoy the fruits of your labor and then never have to think about the stress that went into the project ever again. But, if you're doing things right, you need to dive right back in and assess the success of the project beyond its outcome. You need to hold a post-mortem.

This brief and clearly written book is pitched as an introduction to a wide variety of issues and problems on the frontier of law and technology, and it performs this task quite well. It touches on everything from lawyers' traditional aversion to technology, to the ethics of using (or failing to use) technology, to e-discovery, to social media, with some legal project management and budgeting thrown in.

LMA Mid-Atlantic Small Firm/Solo Marketer SIG
The Capital Local Group is excited to launch our newest Shared Interest Group: The Small Firm/Solo Marketer SIG. This group is specifically targeted to our members who are at firms with less than 100 attorneys or who only have two or fewer people on their marketing team.

While this community in LMA benefits from an active national SIG, our goal is to provide in person networking and learning opportunities for this diverse community in our local group. The Small Firm/Solo Marketer SIG will provide actionable, timely information on a variety of legal marketing topics so that small firms can maximize the resources they have and increase their marketing and business development efforts. Members will have the opportunity to share ideas, lessons learned, and most importantly, create a strong local network of support.

Planning is underway for our first event in mid-April. If you are interested in learning more or helping in the planning of this group, please reach out to Diana Courson.
