School Based Traineeships
Providing a great career start for school leavers
Congratulations Bailey and Emily!
As Year 12 students finish their school education, Mid Coast Connect and Community Housing Limited celebrate the successful completion of the school-based traineeship program for students Emily Munn and Bailey Senior.
Emily and Bailey have been working with the Port Macquarie office of Community Housing one day a week and in school holidays. Emily has been undertaking Business Services and Bailey's been working in Construction.
Mid Coast Connect has provided mentoring and ongoing support to Emily and Bailey for the past two years. School-based traineeships provide an idea opportunity to start a career pathway whilst still at school.  'It's a way of getting a head start in a career, completing nationally-recognised training and earning a wage; and it all counts towards the HSC.' explains Mid Coast Connect's Training Coordinator Allan Campbell.
Allan congratulated Community Housing Limited for being proactive in supporting young people as they get into the workforce.  The organisation has made an ongoing commitment to host students at their four offices across the mid north coast.
Zehrina Hajdic, Housing Services Manager for NSW, said 'At Community Housing we see this program as a way of giving back to the community and have thoroughly enjoyed watching Emily and Bailey develop their skills and knowledge in the work place.  They've been valuable members of our workforce and we look forward to working with Mid Coast Connect with our next intake of trainees.'
The traineeships are keenly sought after by local students.  Those completing Year 10 are encouraged to consider the benefits this career pathway offers.  School-based traineeships provide students with the opportunity to attain a nationally recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification as well as their Higher School Certificate (HSC) and gain valuable work skills and experience through paid employment.
As a Group Training Organisation, Mid Coast Connect partners with supportive host employers like Community Housing Limited in a range of industry areas.
