A message from the Board
submitted by Mark T. Davis
MRMA Partners,
Welcome to the inaugural edition of the Mid-FL Regional Manufacturers Association monthly newsletter. Your board has diligently worked over the past several months to develop an informational product that will add value to your MRMA membership. Our intent is to supply you with diverse information covering a wide variety of topics. Every month this publication will provide information related to upcoming MRMA events and tours, share manufacturing and supply chain best practices, update you on governmental affairs and resources, inform you of events that support and feature manufacturing and supply chain in our membership area, promote educational opportunities for your teams, notify you of networking events and many other topics. Additionally, we will share insights from our associate members from a variety of supporting industries to include banking, insurance, education, human resources, community services and others.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has certainly limited the amount of fellowship and engagement our organization has enjoyed for many years, it has also provided us with a unique opportunity; an operational pause if you will. During this pause, your board has taken a fresh look at the needs of our membership and developed a strategic plan consisting of short, mid and long term goals. The development of this newsletter is one of those goals and as we move into the future we will use it as a tool to better support our membership.
One of the greatest strengths our organization possesses is the passion our members have for manufacturing, the industries that support it and for our community. Over the years, MRMA members have demonstrated that passion through their support of this organization and its goals. From countless tours provided by our members to the phenomenal support for our annual golf tournament which funds a variety of educational needs in our membership area, our members have demonstrated their commitment. Additionally, the contributions of our Executive Directors cannot be understated. From the foundational work done by the late Rob Adamiak to the leadership, enthusiasm and expertise of our current Executive Director Kathleen Betz, our organization is strong and prepared for the future.
As I enter my eleventh year as a member and my second year as your President, I am proud of what we have accomplished together and enthusiastic about the challenges and opportunities ahead. Be well.

Dimension works making professional 3d printing accessible
|
We often hear 3D printing referred to as ‘the wave of the future.’ While that may be true for some, at Dimension Works we know the reality is 3D printing is already key for manufacturers. 3D printing is driving cost and time savings and supply chain solutions for many here locally. Our customers are leveraging the latest in 3D printing technology to iterate product design, drive savings on tooling and fixtures, and print parts for a bridge to production.
Dimension Works is committed to delivering value to manufacturers through full-service partnership in 3D printing. Founded here in Ocala, we are your partner for CAD & Design, 3D Scanning, Rapid Prototyping and 3D Printing Equipment and Software Sales. We partner with industry leading brands like Materialise, EnvisionTEC, Ultimaker, Nexa3D, 3D Platform and XYZ Printing.
Believing that speed-to-market and cost saving are critical for business success, Dimension Works delivers solutions to Engineers and Product Designers for prototyping and manufacturing support. When a Designer or Engineer is working to solve a problem, speed and design validation can be critical and Dimension Works believes the solution is 3D Printing. In a world where speed-to-market is paramount, getting 3D Prints even more quickly can drive success. As a local source for 3D printed parts, or as a source for selecting the right 3D printing equipment Dimension Works is helping manufacturers implement the benefits of 3D printing.
3D Printing is already changing the way products are designed and manufactured around the world, and here in Marion County. It has already been used to shorten time to market, but now 3D Printing is becoming an integral part of the manufacturing process. Dimension Works is working with manufacturers across multiple industries to help them implement 3D Printing in their manufacturing process to drive success.

Lockheed Martin Apprenticeship Program
The signing of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act in 2015 marked a monumental shift in how the workforce system looked at occupational training. The United States Secretary of Labor at the time, Thomas Perez, cited apprenticeships as being the “second college” and our nation’s opportunity to grow our talent. Since implementation of the Act, CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion has been working to expand apprenticeship opportunities throughout our region. This “earn while you learn” philosophy is expanding occupational training opportunities for our local workforce and helping businesses grow their talent from within while developing knowledgeable and dedicated employees.
We are excited to be part of the rollout of Lockheed Martin’s Electronic Assembler Apprenticeship initiative. Lockheed Martin is currently implementing this new program into its facilities throughout the country. This two-year apprenticeship program is registered through the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeships and is set to produce 5,400 apprentices nationwide over the next five years.
CareerSource Florida, CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion and the College of Central Florida have partnered with the local Lockheed Martin facility in Ocala to recruit and train apprentices with assistance from the State of Florida’s Quick Response Training program. The apprenticeship program is two years in length totaling 3,815 hours of on-the-job learning and 185 hours of technical instruction in a classroom setting. Completers will leave the program with the nationally recognized credential of Journeyman Electronic Assembler Apprentice.
Businesses that are interested in learning more about available apprenticeships, paid internship and work experience opportunities, On the Job Training and custom business training options at their location can contact our business services team at 352-873-7955 or toll free at 1-800-746-9950. Welcome to the educational update part of the MRMA Newsletter.
I am Sam Ajlani, College of Central Florida, Associate Professor/Program Director, Engineering Technology | Business, Technology and Workforce and serve on the Mid-FL Regional Manufacturers Association Board of Directors as Educational Liaison, providing you a monthly educational update.
Everyone’s concern is the corona virus and the question is “what is going on with education and the virus?” The Marion County Public Schools (MCPS) is in the midst of trying to determine the best option for reopening the schools and is taking into consideration many options from in-class participation to virtual options in order to help parents, protect the students, and give flexibility due to the pandemic. If you have listened to the board meetings you know there is a new Superintendent, Dr. Diane Gullet, who is fast working to develop a plan for the Fall reopening. You can find the latest information at the MCPS website
www.marionschools.net including a video from the Superintendent about reopening the schools. Each of the surrounding counties have a similar challenge and the each has or is working on a plan for reopening in August. Here is a list of the websites for more information which includes their respective technical colleges:
The College of Central Florida (CCF) is currently offering all their courses online with a few courses and programs having limited access to the college for hands-on activities as required by certifying agencies in order to obtain specific industry certifications. CDC guidelines are being followed
and all the buildings and areas are being sanitized on a regular basis to protect staff and students who are accessing the areas needed for the training. More information from the college website is available at
www.cf.edu
. This online offering will continue in the Fall with select programs that require access to training computers and equipment holding in-person sessions following CDC guidelines. For more information, you can visit their website.
Mid-FL Regional Manufacturers Association (MRMA) and CCF have teamed up to offer training in areas you may need help in developing your employees.
There are a variety of training options for individual to group training sessions either at the college or at your site. The training can be anything such as computers, management, quality, technical skills, and other areas.
If you are looking for
customized training, then you have come to the right place to get what is specifically needed for your
company.
Being a member of MRMA does afford you a discount and there may be help with costs through
CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion
. This is another great resource for training and developing as well. Their website is
https://careersourceclm.com/
. They also work with MRMA and CCF to help local businesses and industry develop a strong workforce.

WHAT IS THE IMT PROGRAM?
The Industrial Manufacturing Technician (IMT) Apprenticeship Program, sponsored by FloridaMakes, is a competency-based hybrid state-wide program offered to focus on entry-level skills for new and existing employees in the IMt occupation. This program requires the completion of 200 non-working hours of online curriculum and 2,000-hours of on-the-job training. It utilizes training from the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) through online courses that are highly interactive and utilize state-of-the-art, computer-based simulation e-learning technologies.
The IMT Program was designed through a sector strategy approach led by the FloridaMakes Advanced Manufacturing Workforce Leadership Council (AMWLc).
