Dear Lower School Families,
It was fun to observe our students come into the building on Thursday morning dressed in red, pink and other Valentine’s Day apparel. It is always enjoyable to see their creativity in enjoying a special dress-down day.
Parent-Teacher Conferences in the Lower School will be on March 4-5, 2021. Like the fall conferences, they will be conducted by Zoom and you are encouraged to sign up not only to speak to your children’s homeroom teachers but their co-curricular teachers as well. The sign-up for conferences will open at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17th, and close at noon on Friday, February 26th. Instructions will be sent by email to all families later today.
The Parent Book Club was postponed due to the snow day on Tuesday. We will now meet on Tuesday, February 16th, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. via Zoom. Please complete this form if interested in joining (even if you had already signed up for the earlier date). We will be discussing chapters 1-5 of Best Friends, Worst Enemies by Dr. Michael Thompson. All parents are welcome to join – even if you have not started reading the book yet.
We will be conducting one of our state-mandated safety drills on Friday, February 19th, at 10:00 a.m. This drill will simulate an exterior building lockdown. This drill will test our campuswide public address system and ensure that our security systems are functioning properly. Other than a few announcements over the intercom, all students will simply remain in their classrooms and their normal activities will continue. Feel free to talk about this with your children beforehand if you feel it will help ease any nervousness they may have. Homeroom teachers will also talk about this drill before it occurs.
If you need to pick up your children early or you are dropping your children off after 8:10 a.m., please notify both the classroom teacher and the office so that we can make sure that your children are ready when you arrive to pick them up or someone is available when you drop them off. In addition, if you know your children will be absent for reasons other than illness, please complete the Absence Request Form two weeks prior to the absence.
Thank you again for your feedback about school lunches. This week students in Explorers through Grade 3 enjoyed warm cheese quesadillas on Wednesday and popcorn chicken on Thursday. Fourth- and fifth-graders returned to eating in the Dining Hall on February 1st, and parents of those students should refer to the MS/US menu from the SAGE lunch menu as to their weekly meal options.
This week’s parenting article is from The New York Times and is entitled “Is My Child a Hypochondriac? Or Is She Just Living in a Pandemic?” It can be found using this link.
