Clearing Impressions
with Casey Bledsoe
June 26 - 28

"To attain to the purity which is the seeking of the mystic, one must be able to purify one's spirit from every thought and feeling, however deeply impressed or engraved in one's heart. The mystic goes as far as purifying himself from his identity...From beginning to end the whole process of spiritual development depends upon this." -Hazrat Inayat Khan

In the quest of spiritual fulfillment, it is critical to remember that one of our primary tasks is that of unlearning. The radiance of the natural self is ever-present, yet occluded by thoughts, memories and feelings stored from our experiences in this life and beyond. Using conscious awareness and breath, we can release these obscurations to discover the profound love, wisdom, peace and health that abides at the core of our being.

In this experiential weekend, we will use mystical relaxation, meditation, group process, the elements and more to unburden our bodies, hearts and souls, that we may live ever more in tune with the harmony of unity, thereby assisting our human family in doing the same.

Friday  6:30-8pm

AR COORDINATORS ATTACKED AT ANNUAL JERUSALEM HUG PEACEMAKING EVENT
The Ninth Annual Jerusalem Hug, an interfaith peacemaking event where participants literally form a human chain to hug the old city walls of Jerusalem was confronted by violent Palestinian anti-activists from East Jerusalem, who were attacking, intimidating, and bullying Palestinians from participating in this event.

As with past years' events,  AR Coordinator Eliyahu McLean, and other AR peacemakers help to organize the Hug, and Shahabuddin and Annapurna Less were also present to participate this year.

 From Shahabuddin David Less:

"Anna and I had just arrived in Israel and were so happy to be there for the ninth annual Jerusalem Hug. The event has been one of caring and compassion for the last eight years, and this year, because of the widespread use of social media, many more Palestinian men, women, and children showed up than is usually the case. With success and notoriety comes potential difficulty.

A group of Palestinians from East Jerusalem showed up to intimidate and bully the peaceful Moslem and Christian Arabs. Violence ensued and the next thing we knew there was bloodshed and ambulances. Some of our Palestinian coordinators were injured and hospitalized. All of us were traumatized and fear filled the air yet we pulled through to pray and join hands together in hope. Our friends who were injured vowed to be even more committed and peaceful. It moved Anna and I deeply and we felt so proud of our work here and the strong, wise people we have come to love here.

The danger here has always been the ease at which we blame the other. We must heal so we can see the other as our self.

Some of our friends were injured in the melee at the Hug and we need to raise money to pay their hospital bills. Please help.

Shalom, Salaam,

Shahabuddin David Less"

Arafat Abu Rass, the Palestinian Nablus coordinator for the AR,  was seriously beaten, along with his pregnant wife and his brother: their hospital bills are $1,300 USD. Please help us pay the bills for Arafat and donate here . He was there with many other Abrahamic Reunion supporters, coordinators, and organizers, in support of the peace event.
Arafat Abu Rass, AR Palestinian Co-coordinator in Nablus, with Shahabuddin David Less

Assailants calling themselves members of an  "anti-normalization" movement in East Jerusalem and Palestine shouted, shoved, and attacked Palestinian participants of the Hug in a move to intimidate them from participating in such events, which they claim only serve to alleviate the Israeli's consciences, and don't further a free Palestine.

Eliyahu McLean, Rodef Shalom, AR Coordinator, and Jerusalem Hug coordinator responded,  "By joining the Jerusalem Hug event, Palestinians were accused by the East Jerusalem activists of being "normalizers", helping Israelis feel good about themselves by meeting with 'nice Arabs' while the occupation continues."

"If anything, we are the true "anti-normalization activists". If "normal" is to live in fear, separation, to forget we are all part of the same human family, then we are "anti-normalization". The thugs who attacked us, they perpetuate the 'occupation' that they accuse the Jerusalem Hug of supporting."

"Breaking down the walls of fear in our minds and between our people, this is what will tear down the physical cement barriers."

Eliyahu was interviewed on Voice Of Israel in response to this violence - listen to the complete interview here.

AR Leadership Retreat Closes with 1st Annual Visioning Interfaith Activism In The Holy Land Conference
The AR Leadership Conference at Tantur Ecumenical Institute

Abrahamic Reunion leaders from across the Holy Land gathered at Tantur Ecumenical Institute between Bethlehem and Jerusalem for a leadership retreat and group visioning process, paving the way for programs in the next year.

The AR's women's programs will be anchored in the Holy Land by (Left to Right) Hadassa Froman, Elana Rozenman (Jew), Siham Halabi (Druze), Anna Less (Sufi), and Ibtisam Mahameed (Muslim)
A separate track of women's programs, two peace journeys for  young adults (one for boys and one for girls), and one journey for children were some of the ideas that will carry forward into 2015.

Says Shahabuddin David Less: " We came together for a day and a half. There were Palestinians, Israeli Jews and Muslims, Christians, and Druze, and we reconnected as a family and developed a vision for the next year."

"We really reconnected, heart-to-heart, and that was the most important thing. We have to come here more, is the truth. So we should try another trip in a year or less."

Interfaith Activist Organizations Created Ideas and Lively Connections and Conversations
Following the AR leadership retreat, over 75 people from eight interfaith activist organizations convened for the 1st Annual Visioning Interfaith Activism in the Holy Land Conference at Tantur Ecumenical Institute.

This conference included discussion of all the organizations' work -  interfaith education, encounters, tours, interreligious activism, women's programs, and shared sacred spaces - and visioned into the next year of collaboration for the interfaith peacemaking activism movement. The conference was hosted by the Abrahamic Reunion and t he Interreligious Coordinating Council of Israel (ICCI), with support and coordination from Tantur Interfaith Scholar Ranaan Mallek.

AR Leaders Sign the Abrahamic Reunion Declaration
Ideas Posted During Interfaith Conference

Hopes are high from Mallek and AR Coordinators that this event can expand to become a yearly interfaith peacemaking summit in the Holy Land to anchor and center a new wave of peacemaking efforts.
